Two most overrated is easy
- The Strokes (their performance reminded me of Pearl Jam, if PJ had no talent)
- The White Stripes (why is it that playing easy music poorly translates into being "awesome"?)

Two most underrated is a bit stickier
- Brand New (I can never get tired of their CD's, just when I've listened to one for a few weeks, my interest returns in another of theirs)

- The Used (just awesome music)

Oh, and thanks to the radio I now have to break my rule and list a third Overrated
- The Black Eyed Peas (if there was an award for dumbest lyrics ever, my humps, lumps whatever the hell that song is would be a top 5 contender, simply awful)

well its following there wonderful song of "lets get retarded"

cant really think of much because i dont listen to the radio anymore so im not sure how anything is "rated"

but i do dissagree with you on white stripes, having met them while in detroit while they were getting big, they only signed because they were really in debt, then they got big, no fault of their own.

I disagree with White Stripes as well, as far as "talent" goes they might not have much, traditionally. But they _do_ make music that sounds really good, imo. And the BEP Elephunk album (one before this horrendous 'My humps' album) was actually fairly decent.

Over rated bands... well, band that is still on the radio, that NEVER should have: Nickleback

Under rated bands: well, there's literallly thousands of them. The radio barely plays 1% of "good" music that is out in the world. The entire indie scene is full of under rated bands. As is every other genre that one can be into. Ska, death metal, etc. Bands with plenty of talent and put out tons of good music that never see the radio waves at all.

Brand New is definately under played. But the Used... I only really like their singles. Most of their other stuff is too screamo.

I fucking hate Nickelback.

Anything that has to do with Scott Stapp is also overrated.

Nickleback, The White Stripes, and The Strokes are all way overrated IMO, and overplayed.

I don't think The Used are underrated, they are pretty popular (and a good band IMO, I'm rather fond of several of their songs).

Brand New really isn't underrated. Everyone I know that has heard of them will agree that they are awesome.

I may agree upon the used.

My votes, Hawthorne Heights, and Atreyu for underrated. Emo FTW.

over rated? sum 41 and good charolette. it isnt music, its audioshit.

underated? I dont listen to a lot of the indie music and all that, but I think that They Might be Giants are pretty poorly know for how awesome they are. second one would be Ben Folds Five. I can listen to them when im angry, sad, joyful, anything, good variety. Going from Song for the Dumped to Brick, and I flow with it. Good music.

Hawthorne Heights underrated? Not a bad band, but run-of-the-mill emo, IMO. Better than some emo bands like My Chemical Romance (who I also think is overrated) and AFI, but that is it.

Atreyu is underrated though, I'm rather fond of their CD The Curse. Good metal-ish music you can sing along to, with lots of cool tracks.

Atreyu aren't underrated; if anything, they're OVERrated. As much as I enjoy listening to them, they're really not anything special at all. The guitarists churn out some pretty cool riffs occasionally, but everyone else is pretty average except the vocalist, who is pretty shitty as far as screamers go.

Totally agree with the nickleback call. However, have you seen the chick from stripes, she can hardly be called a set drummer, she's more like snare/base with the occasional cymbal splash. I'm not totally sold on their sound either. My point is to say their super-superior to everything else out there, (some idiots from rolling stone saying things like, "if youre not the white stripes right now it sucks to be you," or some shit like that is just stupid). This is my same gripe with the strokes, when they first hit in like 2002, they were "The next nirvana" and yes that statment was actually made. Point is, neither of these bands are overly superior to the other good music out there, they're just being made out to be so, by the reviewers.

fair enough... just don't read reviewers... RS is full of crap 92.4% of the time anyways. And I don't know where you read "the next nirvana", that doesn't make much sense. But in a way you could argue that they began the new British sounding music invasion here in the US (Franz Ferdinand, Killers and others). So perhaps the "next Beatles" would have been better

I wasn't doubting that you had read it. I was saying that the reviewer that claimed that was not making much sense. Sorry.

Edit Forgot to add the "n't" to "wasn't"
