Interesting. I've just now started the series and I can't possibly see how they'll make the movie(s) interesting considering so little is ever seemingly explained. I'm half way thru the second book so perhaps some things will eventually fall out and make sense but right now, so much stuff just seems to be there as a momentary device for King's writing.

The books definately get better as stephen king gains experience. They were all written over the course of 20 some odd years so The Gunslinger lacks a little in the 'good book' department. I could totally see how they could make it into a movie though. maybe 3 or more parts.

after LOTR i would only trust Peter Jackson to tackle this kind of thing. have they announced a director yet?

Thats what i thought at first, but apparently King hand picked JJ Abrams (director of lost) because he had worked with abrams on previous movies. No word yet on whether they plan to make 7 movies, squeeze it into a trilogy, or just make one long one.
