I don't listen to any Hank Williams III but he's awesome just because of the concept that he does.

Old thread is old, srsly.

Anyway, I've recently gotten into a bit harsher metal than I used to like. There's a group called Ensiferum that is pretty awesome, used to I'd never listen to them.

Since it's been so long since the last round of posts, anyone listened to any new metal lately that they thought was good?

oh yeah, and as for this, I've been listening a lot to this band called Intronaut lately. They're a tech metal band but they have some post-metal influences. I recommend checking them out.

Also, HORSE the Band are not only awesome and heavy, but the keyboardist uses a Game Boy sequencing cartridge to get a cool 8-bit influenced sound at some points. Highly recommended.

If you can find it, The Pax Cecilia's first album, Nouveau: A Theatre of the Air is really really good.

I'd say if you haven't listened to them yet, Deftones and Thrice. Mastodon. Alexisonfire is really good, they have a screamer, a rough vocalist, and a "regular" vocalist. The Human Abstract you might like. I'll look at more of my stuff later and see if there's other bands that might fit into a similarity.

Speaking of Alexisonfire... Dallas Green's solo project City and Colour put out one of the best albums of 2008 IMHO.. I actually haven't listened to alexisonfire, but I have the feeling that they are nothing like City and Colour

Battle of Mice goes for the creepy vibe with a female vocalist, they're amazing though. They're also heavy as fuckin' lead, if that's one of the parts of Mudvayne you like.

Glassjaw is some nice post-hardcore.

Hopesfall is pretty good, or at least No Wings To Speak Of and Satellite Years are.

Try Isis's latest album, In the Absence of Truth.

Opeth has one of the best alternating death growl with clean vocal style I've heard. Mikael Akerfeldt is pretty gifted as a vocalist.

If you're looking for more modern, mainstream rock, I've always through Sevendust wasn't too bad.

Sikth is a tech metal band that has the bass heavy sound that Mudvayne does, and they have alternating vocals although it's not a very even split between clean and heavy. it's mostly just this crazy scat-sounding heavy growl, with some nice clean interludes in some songs.

Try the Dillinger Escape Plan's newest album Ire Works, there's a lot more clean vocals in that than any other DEP album.

The Fall of Troy isn't really heavy per se, but it has some intricate guitar work with alternating vocals.

Between the Buried and Me also don't have many clean vocals, but they're fucking amazing in all respects.

That's all I can really think of just through browsing my playlist.

sounds awesome

I just got off an old school rap kick and needed something heavy, but most of the stuff I have is good just needed something new.

Its been first two albums of staind, sevendust, mushroom head, american head charge, and mudvayne. Need to branch out a bit

Ire Works is a great album, but also check out Miss Machine, I personally think it's better.

Oh, it's better by far, but he was asking for stuff with more clean vocals than just screaming.

I'm late, but holy shit, something Ben and I have in common. Both hopesfall CDs you mentioned are by far their best. Also, Thrice, Deftones, HORSE the band, and Glassjaw are awesome.

Sidenote (if anyone remembers this): http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/pixelated

I love that fucking flash for some reason (HORSE the band is the music).

Indeed. I'm not a huge Hopesfall fan, but Thrice is probably one of my top 5 favorite bands and Deftones is up there too. They'd probably be higher, but I really didn't like Adrenaline and most of Around the Fur.

those are probably my favorite two deftones albums. Raw and ridiculous tempo

white pony is epic but almost in a league of its own, self titled gets back into it, saturday night wrist has a couple great tracks and a lot of potential I dont think they executed

+1 for Between Buried and Me

Also just started getting into Hammerfall and Sonata Arctica.

Bullet for My Valentine is still my favorite "metal" band. I can't remember what I have posted in this thread as it seems like so long ago.

Ahh, I missed that. Yeah, Miss Machine is a lot of screaming. Although Unretrofied doesn't really fit in with the rest of the album and is excellent DEP without the screaming
