I've heard that parallels could also be drawn between Avatar and Dances With Wolves, although I haven't seen the latter, so I can't say for sure. I can be sure, though, that this connection is far more humorous.

True for both. I was thinking of Dances with Wolves the entire time I was watching Avatar, and then afterwards, someone mentioned Pocahantas in the bathroom. It had very strong "Native American" analogies. But if you look past that, and the fact that Hollywood has yet to release anything original in the past decade, it is still an amazing movie.

This makes me think that we need a thread for posting Stumbles.

Also, while I wouldn't give credit to Avatar for having the most original plot ever, its got a good script. Great movie overall. EDIT: Forgot to mention that James Cameron wrote Avatar in 1994 before Pocohontas, but the technology wasn't available to make the film. Basically the industry recycles ideas a LOT.

Crippled war veteran turns into giant blue native american, battle ensues, large 3-D explosions, the end.

So the storyline wasn't the best, but it was pretty much sex for your eyes.

You can bash the script all you want, but it is the Best Picture according to the Golden Globe voters. And judging by what I know of you guys, I would say they know more about movies.

I think its fine that the movie won that, it would be weird if it didn't. What I don't like is that when they call it the future. If the future of movies is that they have to cost 500 million dollars, have lackluster stories, hire every designer in the industry, and take over 4 years to make.....fuck the future.

I think Neill Blomkamp should be praised for district 9. That should be the future. He managed to make a sci-fi action movie with around 20 million dollars. If movies cost less we would see directors take chances with new talent and new ideas. If it bombs, so what you are only out 20mil. Instead we get things like transformers 2 that is some dumbed down, flashy, explosion ridden, piece of shit that cost almost 250million.

I also like how the hollywood foreign press is continuing their snubbing of tarantino, Inglourious basterds was one of the most enjoyable movies I have ever seen. The acting was top notch, and the actors were awarded. The script was the real winner though, and yet tarantino's only praise was from the director/screen play writer from up in the air's acceptance speech for best writing.

Personally, I am not a fan of Tarantino's work. Don't get me wrong, his style is very unique, something that is seriously missing in a lot of Hollywood at the moment, but it doesn't appeal to me. I also have the strong impression that I am not in the minority.

Inglourious Basterds had a lot of promise, and I think he dropped the ball on what that movie could have been. The only thing that saved it in my opinion was that it wasn't historically accurate. At all. Brilliant move.

The dialog was epic, nobody comes close. There were just certain things that no one else has done in the hundreds of WWII movies, and the dozens of german occupied france movies. The only movie really that takes into account people speak different languages and beyond that have different dialects/accents.

You are right most people don't like his movies, but probably because most don't like dialog. All most people want is action and fast cut scenes.

Do you know how much politics go into movie award voting? Shut up.

Also, while I was disappointed by Inglorious Basterds (in particular for the fact that I didn't feel it was a distinctly Tarantino-esque movie), I felt it was one of the best acted and best directed movie of the year anyways. Two scenes in particular should go down in movie history: the opening scene, and the scene in the bar. never before has the phrase "dripping with tension" been so appropriate.

If avatar wasn't 3d I would have asked for my money back. Also, I got a headache about 2/3 of the way through the movie, when it felt like it should have been over.
