That's what some people are trying to make it. I swear; these people better shut up and stop bitching before I shove my boot up their ass. If all of these people had their ways the most action packed movie allowed would be 90 minutes of the Brady family eating some kind of vegan meal...

This kind of shit gives me an aneurysm.

What kind of pussy activist fuck thinks that cigarettes are offensive? I've seen PG movies that show heavy drinking and other alcohol related acts. Isn't booze just as or more dangerous than cigarettes? Why is this not offensive? These activist make no sense, if they want to cut cigarettes out of movies, they are going to have to do the same with all drugs. I see it as just one more dickless tard activist bitching just for the sake of it. Why fight for such a worthless cause?

Also, how come when people die of cigarettes they blame the tobacco companies, but when there is a drunk driver or alcohol poisoning, they never blame the alcohol companies?

There is no logic anymore.

yeah, it's not a commercial for crying out loud. i remember when i was a kid when cartoon characters would smoke. in fact if anyone remembers the opening scene for "mrs. doubtfire", robin williams is a cartoon voice over actor who quits his job because the animated character was enjoying and praising cigarrettes... of course this is a little different

honestly though i don't think smoking is that bad. so what, if you smoke a shitton you can get cancer later and yadda yadda yadda it says so right there on the box! everyone knows that

According to Glantz's research, nearly 80 percent of movies rated PG-13 feature some form of tobacco use, while some 50 percent of G- and PG- rated films depict smoking.

"depict" smoking? it's not like the star of hte movie is a giant talking cigarrette! and how long do these "smoking" scenes last? 45 minutes? does the plot revolve around smoking... no. and it's a time proven fact that smoking makes people look cool, so there you go

(why don't i just read the whole article and THEN post...)

Quote:
Smoking is a major device that filmmakers use to help define characters, said Robert Thompson, professor of media and pop culture at Syracuse University, who pointed out that even Santa Claus lights up in films such as "Bad Santa."

HAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAH yeah because smoking is the worst thing that happened in bad santa. if you let your kid go see that movie you are a retard, and you deserve for him to turn up into a chainsmoker because he saw that movie

Quote:
"Good art is filled with people behaving badly," he said. "Smoking is still legal but unarguably so bad for you. That's one of the things that gives it such a charge — when you have a character smoking in a film it tells you a lot about them. They're flaunting the norms of what's considered safe and conservative behavior."

yes, smoking is such a wreckless act that is not considered safe and conservative. this is ultra gay

and one more thing, how come the "ads by google" link to three sites that promise to help you stop smoking? shouldn't there also be links to websites where you can buy smokes? it would only be fair, and all

This whole thing is fucking retarded. What's next erasing Tobacco Plantations from history books because it promotes the Tobacco Industry? Wait maybe I shouldn't have said that, some liberal fucktard might get it in his head to actually do that.

Logic + Politics = DNE

Politics aren't logical. Thats the way it is, always has been, and always will be. So get over it and go bitch at your congress man/woman.

i heard that they are removing all traces of mount rushmore from elementary school textbooks because (i'm not sure of the history of mount rushmore, and i had heard this a long time ago) it's insulting to native americans..? if someone wants to correct me please do, but that was the one thing i remembered.

also they were going to change the word "bookworm" to "scholarly" etc. you remember those problems or vocabulary things where they'd use words like that... they wanted to change "elderly" too ... to "wise" or something like that... total crap

I didn't hear those extremes...but I heard on the radio a few months ago that some schools in California were changing "snowman" to "snowperson" and instead of using he or they it was "he or she" and just tons of stupid crap like that. I forget how much it was costing but it was up in the millions just to make these textbooks politically correct.

if you want a case of cartoon smoking, just watch some of the old "Tom and Jerry" cartoons. Quite a few of the old ones had both Tom AND Jerry smoking and / or getting sloshed. stupid anti-smoking people. Last I checked, cigarettes were still legal in this country...

Amon Goeth can shoot anybody in the head that he wants, and he can screw any young Jewish girl, too, as far as I'm concerned, but when that Oscar Schindler punk lights up at dinner, I'M F*CKING OFFENDED!!!!!

some of these points are kind of moot, considering they don't want to BAN cigarrette smoking, they just want to make it a rated-R type material. if you are screwing young jewish girls and shooting people in the head, something tells me the censors aren't going to give you the biggest critique for a cigarrette

but then again these days you can get away with a "fuck!" in a pg13 movie
