If anyone is interested, several guys are getting together tomorrow night to do some mma (mixed martial arts) sparring at the rec center. We usually wear some headgear and stuff so no one gets hurt. It's nothing too serious, but it's still a lot of fun. We will have people of all different sizes and skill levels so anyone is welcome to come. We'll probably start around 8pm. We also might do it again Saturday night.
I'm going out of town this weekend, is there any chance that this might become a regular thing? I'd love the chance to spar with some people. I'd lay odds that everyone's standup is going to be better than mine, though.

I've been thinking of trying out some of the university martial arts clubs. I have 4 years experience with shito-ryu karate, I was thinking of hitting up the tkd and aikido clubs. Any suggestions?

The Youn Wha Ryu club meets M/T/R nights from 8:30-9:30pm in the aerobics/martial arts room at the multipurpose building...its always a good time!

There's a judo school on pine street that's only like $20 bucks a month. You might want to look into that if you want to round-out your karate. However, I have no idea how good the school is.
The Youn Wha Ryu club seemed pretty decent the few times I tried it out. Functionally, the classes are pretty similar to TKD. The only real difference I could tell is that it seemed a little less geared towards point-fighting than most TKD places (which is a good thing).
Or, if you'd like to try something completely different, I'd do some Brazilian Jiujitsu with you. I'm not great at it, but I've done it off-and-on for a while and have a pretty good base knowledge about it.

Yeah I just gotta see if I can map any of the classes around my schedule. I'm actually going up to chicago in two weeks for the shotokan nationals. So after that I'll probably start figuring new stuff out.
