I'm planning on going on a one day float at the end of spring break, but all the rivers I've done before area a ways away (Jack's Fork, etc). Anyhow, I was wondering if any of you guys know of any rivers close to Rolla that have some good floats around that time of year.
Thanks.

I've done the Gasconade before. It's kinda slow but it's good for tubing.

Canoeing. We've both done several floats before, along with a (guided) whitewater in CO last summer, in case that has any bearing on ideas.

You're not going to find much that compares out here, at least that I've seen.

Well yeah. I've done the Current and Jack's Fork (at its highest flood stage in recent memory back in '05) and a couple others, so I know what I'm getting into. That was more in case folks were thinking I'd never done one.

second the current. trout season started so you can fish for trout in the river. (i'd personally stay away from this river until the weather gets hot. the current is fed by numerous springs and the water gets VERY cold).

gasconade is good, just need to know where to set in/pull out.

big piney is nice as well.

haven't personally been on the meramec, but i hear it's nice.

all of these are fairly close.

a float is a float. just depends what you'll be doing. i prefer to fish. some prefer to relax or just get smashed. some like the sights. just depends on your preference.

Huzzah and Courtious creeks are both very nice and around 45 minutes away. Water quality is on par with the Current and Jack's Fork, scenery isn't quite as nice though. The Current, Jack's Fork, and Eleven Point win hands down for the best scenery in MO. I've heard the St. Francios river in SE Missouri has some whitewater-ish stuff but i've never been on it.

If your looking for some good whitewater the St Francis is your best bet, Part of it runs class III & IV. This is where they have whitewater races.
