Looks like a regular wolf spider.

They can be aggressive, and the bites are about as painful as a bee sting (maybe a bit more due to the large size), but not medically significant.

They do actively hunt other spiders, including brown recluses. Until they get big, I let them stay in the house. After that, they are cordially ushered outside. Brown recluses are unceremonially squashed, along with black widows. Jumping spiders are treated as favored pets, and brought indoors when found outside.

Wolf spiders are cool. I should post pix of an orb spider (formerly guarded my back door until he moved out) who's web was ~3-4 ft diameter

Up until it started getting really cold last week, we had an orb spider near our front door - the web was 8x10 feet.

That's what those giant shrimplike freaks of nature are called! I had never seen one before I moved into the house I'm in now, thought they were an abominations from the oil tank in the basement...

Wolf spiders get HUGE in southern Illinois where I'm from. We shine their eyes when we go frog gigging and they are sometimes big enough to make us think it's a bullfrog. Beastly. I hate all spiders... these guys too

Don't light that man on fire. That guy is doing you a favor. He could have chosen any house to catch and kill more annoying bugs at, but he chose yours. I mean seriously, would you light a man on fire who decided to give you free cable? Same sort of deal there.

Go out the front door and walk around. It's worth it.

Or, interrupt the web-weaving and she'll move.
