Incidentally, I'm 95% certain they called classes at Rolla High already.

Anyway... why the hell can't the chancellor (that is who calls snow days, right?) just suck it up and call it once in a while?

Due to the professors' that do not feel it is up to the chancellor to dictate the schedule of their class.

(BTW: You people do realize that you are no longer in High School right?)

I'm not mad that we had class, just that everyone else was off.

You're paying a hefty price for the education (even if you are on a full-ride) so you might as well get the most of it. Yeah, we don't get classes canceled, but we can almost double MU's starting salaries and our hardassness is one of the reasons why.

Yes, consider it preparing you for life out of college, or something like that.

The roads in St. Louis were absolute shit this morning (and even more shittier on the way home) and I still had to drive 30 miles each way from the suburbs to downtown for work. With a lot of companies, there's no such thing as snow days.

Yeah, but getting home (which I just did 20 minutes ago) involved either driving through 6 inches of snow or walking through 6 inches of snow. Either choice was not desirable. I need to invest in boots.

Zero significance...Mizzou doesn't call snow days either.

Except for the one two years ago where we got 22 inches overnight. But that was the first one in like 55 years. I-70 got shut down for 50 miles in either direction, people were tubing in the streets behind 4WD vehicles. There was just no way in hell that classes were going on.

The general feeling is that soooo much of UMR's student base is student residents, and very few out-of-town commuters. Very very unlikely for you to get killed in a car accident if you're waddling in from TJ. East Central called off classes today, but then they're a commuter school, and not exactly Tier 1 if you know what I mean.

It wouldn't matter if classes were officially cancelled anyway, certain professors would still send out emails telling you to be there or else. They did it on terrorist day, they will do it on a snow day.

I think MSU and Drury get off pretty often in Springfield for snow days, but I have 2 canceled so far. One for my teacher not being able to get back from St.Louis, and then my 8am class.

You know what.. I'll be getting PAID to do that.. so, it won't be as big of a deal.

there is such things as snow days in business, you say you cant make it, or you plan ahead and bring work home with you. Hell my sisters company told them not to come in the next day unless they were confident they could make it.

As far as I'm concerned, I'm paid for the work I do. I'm not paid for anything until I set foot in the office. Dying is not worth a job.

True, it depends I guess. My manager is still working on getting me VPN access so I can work from home (you wouldn't think there would be that much damn paperwork and approvals for VPN). And for me, calling in due to snow would require me to use a vacation day, which I'm not doing since I've already booked an actual vacation in March and I'm not paying United's ridiculous flight change fees to have a snow day. Last resort, unpaid day off, but I've got bills to pay. Everyone's situation is different I suppose.

And what benm said. I get paid to be there from 8-5, minus an hour for lunch. I'm not getting paid to drive to and from work. Would definitely be nice though :D
