If it keeps going, and if it freezes over, there's a good chance they'll cancel it. I few inches of ice ain't nothin' to fuck with. That's generally the only time that they ever cancel class, for super-ice.

That's 2 if's (assuming I can count right) and the only time they canceled in my memory was super-ice + power outage. I'm not expecting to get to sleep in tomorrow

If we're thinking of the same thing a couple years ago, I don't remember power outages being a factor. Just a fuckton of ice.

I think you're thinking of what I'm referring to. School has actually been canceled about 2 or 3 times since I've been here. All of them involved lots of ice. And yeah, I think the second one was the power outage one.

And yeah, it might be two "ifs," but it looks like pretty likely "ifs" at the moment, doesn't it?

its all hail/snow right now, easily movable but if it all freezes together it could get a lot worse

No no no. Professors cancelled classes for ice. The only school-wide cancellations I can recall were one for the power outage, and one for Powdered Sugar Day. Ice did in one circumstance cause a 2-hour delay for classes campus-wide and the cancellation of evening classes.

Incidentally, I'm 95% certain they called classes at Rolla High already.

sadly, I have to work tomorrow morning, and while I would like to not have classes, that would prob mean than I wont go in to work, which is before class, and then I dont get paid :(

but I guess its a win-win: get paid for work (even if I have to drive in that aweful shit), or no classes.

who knows, maybe I'll be lucky enough to get both, although the driving to work thing still concerns me

I have been here since Fall 2002 (I have since graduated and have now become part of the collective). Discounting the sucrose incident and the electron strike over the summer of 2003, I can only recall one partial class cancellation due to a major solid-state dihydrogen monoxide phenomenon on campus. Thus while there exists a non-zero probability that class will be canceled, it is highly doubtful.

No class for me, then! Student teaching FTW!

Anyway... why the hell can't the chancellor (that is who calls snow days, right?) just suck it up and call it once in a while? It's not a freaking popularity contest. There are some poor kids out there who really needed to get to class today but couldn't because of the roads, and those who do brave the conditions could get themselves killed by some idiot. Is that what it's gonna take to break this guy's streak of stubbornness?

In any case, if you HAVE to have classes today, at LEAST do a half-decent job of clearing the parking lots and sidewalks. This isn't exactly a jab at the grounds crew - they only have so much time to get all that done - so, how about those days when stuff can't get properly cleaned you could cancel classes?

And this is coming from someone to whom it doesn't matter anymore if classes are canceled on campus or not - but it still pisses me the hell off.

It's not the chancellor who's stubborn about it; this has been the case as long as anyone can remember. I just think that we're a hardy bunch. We can make the trek. Bah! *Snaps off beef jerky*
