You know, back in 01 and 02, they prohibited bike riding on campus.

I'm not complaining about other students having to dodge me. I go around every student I possible can while riding my bike. I understand that the sidewalk is a place for pedestrians and bicyclists to both use. I'm faster, so it's my responsibility to go around others. I have yet to hit a single person during my 3 years of riding on this campus. I'm only complaining about the pedestrians that are using ramps that are specifically for wheeled vehicles(bikes, mopeds, wheelchairs, etc.) and taking up the entire ramp, or people/groups walking in, say, the TJ tunnel that walk directly down the center making it impossible for someone to pass and refuse to move over a little when they notice a bicycle is right behind them. If you really want to try to make a difference, petition to outlaw bicycles on the sidewalks of campus and watch it get shot down with the entire stuco body laughing at you. Bicycles are a part of this campus. How about instead of you complaining, you learn to live with it and make the journey to class better for everyone.

Apparently, they relized that it wasn't a good idea. :)

What point are you trying to make?

Seeing how this is a complaint based thread, and me voicing my complaint, well it seems to fall directly in line with the spirit of the OP.

And before you complain about peds on the ramps, you had first better acknowledge that they were not put in place for you to begin with. Therefore, you share the ramps with the pedestrians... They aren't there for bikers.

Source: Off Campus Yeah, I'm practically speechless at your post.

First of all, with your Wal-Mart argument, you realize that you can't carry groceries and ride a bike at the same?
Second of all, there's no point in riding a bike from somewhere to somewhere else? Well shit son, you sir have indeed considered all of the factors. Your logic is irrefutable.

I can understand the off-campus reason for riding a bike to campus... Who wants to pay to park? But I lived in TJ years ago, but the same holds true... There is NO necessity to ride a bike from TJ to campus. And ummm... it's called handlebars and if you can't ride a bike with items on your handlebars, then you have no business riding a bike!

Quote:
OH WAIT.
Like I mentioned earlier in the thread, if you had bothered to read it, some people actually enjoy riding a bike or longboard or scooter or casterboard (the last of which are suddenly ubiquitous on campus). Even if they're going somewhere two buildings away, they may take joy in the ride there. And your example, riding from CompSci to Toomey. What if their next class was in the Rolla Building or Schrenk? Maybe they didn't want to backtrack to CompSci and then head to Schrenk. What's wrong with not wanting to take the time to walk somewhere and instead making travel 5 times faster? I personally don't like walking places. It feels like time that could be spent.....well, doing anything besides walking, really. I don't enjoy walking, and that's even on the days where my knees and/or back AREN'T killing me.

Back and knee problems, you're making the case for more handicapped spots than for bikes... Back problems? Do you ride a bike? Ever?

Quote:
YOU have to accept the fact that our campus is absurdly unfriendly to any pedestrians who aren't walking.

And that's why I can't take you seriously.... Pedestrians who aren't walking? Wow!!! When did the word pedestrian include bicyclists? I may be a drunk Attack! Rat, but I at least say what I mean, and mean what I say. I get we're numbers people, but we also aren't retarded (can say it because my lil bro is here with me, problems? Take it up with him!!)

Quote:
And you could make the argument that our campus is too small to justify a separate path for bikers/boarders, but now you understand the reason why so many of us are pissed off and frustrated with walkers who simply aren't aware of what's going on around them.

And the walkers are tired of being nearly run over. And if you don't think the walkers will WIN, then, well, you should first probably learn what the word pedestrian means, and then second, rethink how you ride to school.

Don't attempt to play the Attack! Rat in a game of logic. Well, seeing as how you don't even know what a pedestrian is, well, nevermind, I'll invite it from someone who doesn't even know why a pedestrian IS a pedestrian!

I figured you would follow that up with an "I can end this thread in HOLOCAUST. In a HOLOCAUST. IN A HOLOCAUST" and then go all berto on us and lock it up.

There isn't a NECESSITY to do ANYTHING. If you want to go down the road and play the semantic game, I'd suggest you learn what "necessity" means. As most of my previous post pointed out anyways, there doesn't need to be a necessity to ride a bike--some people don't want to waste time walking, some people enjoy riding, some people want travel that is lower-impact on their body. I fall into all 3.

Attack! Rat wrote:

Sorry, I had to pay special attention to this particularly inane piece of logic. When you buy groceries, what exactly do you buy? Do you live an ascetic, minimalist lifestyle? Because I typically only buy groceries every few weeks, sometimes only once a month even. Correct me if I'm wrong (I'm not), but riding a bike with 5-10 full grocery bags is unwieldy, unsafe, and just plain unnecessary. Stop trying to argue that the only place far enough away to ride a bike is Wal-Mart.

Attack! Rat wrote:

No, and I'd appreciate it if you stop telling me what I'm trying to argue. From what I can tell, you're making the assumption that bikes are really hard on your body (perhaps even harder than walking?). Have you ever worked out on an elliptical machine rather than a treadmill? The whole reason they exist is because they're low impact--your feet never even leave the surface they're on. I don't really think you understand the force and impact that walking does to your body, especially compared to things like bikes.

Not only are you forming the rest of your argument in this post based on a single semantic error, but you're implying I'm retarded because of it (and then saying it's ok because your brother who I'm going to assume is retarded is with you)? Wow, well played.

OH WAIT NO THAT WAS SARCASM. You know EXACTLY what I meant; if you didn't, then I think I'M going to have to play the retard card. If you honestly can't take me seriously because of the semantic problem (even knowing what I meant), then you need to GTFO and stop fellating yourself because of your MASTERY of logic. Ad hominem, anyone?

Oh, again with semantics! You need to wake the fuck up and realize that misusing ONE WORD doesn't disqualify my entire argument.
If people are tired of nearly being run over, then they are doing something drastically wrong. Whether that's weaving erratically, making sudden jumps to the side, walking more than two abreast, or clogging a ramp that's the only way for a wheeled vehicle to go, it's their own goddamned fault. More than a few times I've nearly hit someone who is listening to their ipod and made a sudden movement in another direction, or wiped out because I turn a corner and there are 4 people walking side by side, taking up the entire walk. Of COURSE the sidewalk is intended for pedestrians; that doesn't mean they have to be righteous pricks about it and make it hard for the rest of us to get around.

I just want to conclude with pointing out that referring to yourself in the third person (oh, referring to your FORUM HANDLE in the third person) and declaring yourself the victor of an internet argument isn't going to get you any points around here. I have more than provided counterpoints to your arguments, and you have NOT out-witted me in ANY game of logic here. If anything, you've lost it, having to resort to ad hominems and appeals to ridicule (with your ridiculous fixation on the definition of pedestrian).

lostboyz thinks that attack rat is retardedly retarded to think he can win anything here. With your attitude and arguement style you won't even convince someone of the truth let alone an opinion.

Ya know, referring to yourself in the third person has been shown to denote mental instability. I would say more on said topic, but I think ben laden covered it pretty good. You aren't going to win because your argument is fucking retardedly retarded (as LB so aptly put it).

First, the best way to be right is to be technically right. I'm sorry, but every 16 year old, well actually every 15 year old in the state of Missouri should know what a pedestrian is. Sorry for expecting more out of a Rolla student than a 15 year old Missourian... Guess I was wrong, you are not smarter than a 15 year old Missouri high school student

Second, my Wal-Mart argument... It stands. You may enjoy riding your bike around, but everything changes when all of a sudden everyone else has more wheels and are going faster than you, doesn't it? Like you've never gone to Wal-Mart for one thing.....

Third, you completely miss my point. Bikers think they own the sidewalks on campus. Bikers have an obligation to let themselves be known to the students they literally ride on top of until they move over. So, do you have a little bell on your handlebars to warn pedestrians to 'get out of your way'??? No of course not....

Is your biggest complaint not the ramp between the library and comp sci? And if it is, then why can't you just go around the library? No steps, no ramps, you do love riding after all, what's another 30 seconds. Well, it's because you want to take the shortest route possible to Toomey (let's say), just as the pedestrian is to the library. Unfortunately, until they designate that ramp for only bikes and wheelchairs, you have NO standing determing who is allowed on it to take the shortest route to a destination because, well, it wasn't built for you at all was it? The person walking always will move, if they don't, well, they are being an even bigger ass than even the bike rider. But getting on their ass with no warning (i.e. didn't hear your little handlebar bell "ring ring, ring ring" which of course never happens anyways) expect to ride in the grass. Being a lover of bicycling, the grass shouldn't represent any challenge to you anyways!

Come on, riding your bike to campus is one thing... Riding your bike from Comp Sci to Toomey is another.

The Attack! Rat has spoken (in the third person yet again!!! OMG! The Attack! Rat expects and also accepts your challenges. OMG Who is this Attack! Rat, he who talks about himself in the 3rd person, has he never taken an English class or is he simply THAT bad ass?).
