Applebee's is temporarily Closed.

Turns out some elderly guy got the gas pedal mixed up with his brake pedal and ran his car entirely through the side of Applebees. Would have taken a picture but it was to dark to make anything out but from what the construction crew (working at 9:30pm) told us is the car went entirely through the bathrooms at applebees.

No idea on how long they'll be closed but if they have crews working this late it probably wont be for to long.

What does this say about Rolla that this is not the first restaurant on 63 to have a car drive INTO the restaurant in recent history?

Ya, I drove by it yesterday. I was gonna go in but two girls yelled at me that it was closed. I didn't know why at first, then I circled around and saw the gaping hole in the mens restroom outer wall. It just had caution tape over it.

amd, this is different than the huddle house incident. The guy had to take a dump so bad that he just couldn't go through the door like a normal person, so he made a new door for the bathroom with his truck. Huddle house just had an idiot drive into it.

A few months ago, didn't some car fly through the front wall of Key Sports? It is on the south end of Rolla on 63 near the city limits. I think that driver passed out either from medication or some sort of seizure.

Are Rolla drivers really that bad? This is just one of many cases of cars crashing into buildings.

Rolla is the perfect storm of bad driving. You start with a town full of aging motorists waiting for the inevitable, adrenaline-junkie rednecks with inferiority complexes, and quite a few middle-aged workers that spend more on a car payment than the payment on their home and don't want to push their car too far by possibly approaching the speed limit. Then add a dash of boredom-induced drug users and the occasional drunk driver. Now you mix in a healthy amount of inexperienced drivers that think they know better than the locals, always counting down the days until they can return to interstate driving back in the cities. The result is a pissed off local population of bad drivers mixed with a pissed off visiting population of students that don't yet have enough experience to know when to just suck it up and go with traffic.

So now everyone's either road raging, drunk, high, scared to death, or an amusing combination of several. Thus you see more crazy stunts and near accidents on a five minute drive across Rolla than you would in a Michael Bay film.

That's the best summary of Rolla driving ever.

What was even funnier was that I had a visitor from St. Louis that day and I was showing her around and explaining the Huddle House thing. When she went to Applebee's later that night she couldn't get in and laughed at the irony.

And don't forget the high schoolers that think Rolla is the set of the next Fast and Furious movie.
