Where does one swim around here? Splashzone's WAYYY too expensive for what you get, The Centre is nice but indoors, and the Bullman pool wins the cheap award but it's also indoors. Lane Spring is good on 95 degree days but it's too cold for the old lady.
Where else can we go around here? 20 minute drive or less, preferably outdoors. Clean ponds, any rivers, any springs, cheap public pools, anything else you can think of.
And of course: No rip currents, no red tide, no former cesspools (this rules out Schuman Lake), no sharks or mutants or mutant sharks, and NO 700-foot deep ends.

For a $4 parking fee, you can get into Meramec Springs State Park just on the other side of St. James. It is spring fed so it is very clean, but the temperature at the spring is 52 degrees. The park runs for a ways along the stream, so it should warm up a bit further down the stream.
The stream along the Green Acres/Acorn Trail here in Rolla has issues with mutant sharks, so avoid it if you can.
That is all I know of at the moment. Maybe check out the Gasconade River or Little Piney? I know that they are about a 45 minute drive, but it could be worth it.

You can also try the Little Piney in Newburg. I used to float there several times a week during the summer. It's short, free and 5 minutes away. You can either get off at the overpass and float down to the campground area or go directly downstream to the campground area yourself.
Probably wanna hit it on the off hours if you wanna avoid teens/parties at the campsite.
