Drove by Wal-Mart after class and verified that there was indeed a fire in the shoe department. As of 2:30 the entire store is still closed. The cops blocking the parking lot didn't know how long it would be until they cleared the scene. This tells me there's an arson invesigation.

Based on intel from a friend of the police department (including the transfer from me to whoever is reading this, this is 3 degrees of separation from a primary source), Walmart has been having lots of work done on the Air Conditioning units on the roof. Once the work was finished, a rubber-based sealant (probably Tar) was used to protect internal electronics from the elements. Ironically, this tar-substance managed to leak into the electronic cabinet and ignited. The fire manged to burn through the roof of the building. I don't know how extensive the damage is, but it is apparently enough to close down a store that never closes more than once a year.

I was just there Saturday night at 11pm and didn't notice a thing and I was right near the restrooms in the back. I didn't know about this so I didn't look up at the roof either.
