Does anyone know much about karaoke machines and what all is needed? We are looking at getting a player and some of the karaoke discs (cd+g) From what I can tell all that will be needed is a player, the cds, mics, a tv, and speakers. If this is correct does anyone know of a decent brand or player model?
Another route I know we can go would be software and loading music. If anyone has experience with this or knowledge of the subject I would appreciate the info. I downloaded a program called KaraFun but it will take forever to do the lyrics myself for the songs I have and it cost way too much to download their songs (Plus we would be buying from an overseas company and I dont feel comfortable with throwing out information online like that)
I'm thinking the best route would be to buy a player and a set of songs on discs Then for newer songs that people want we could get a program that has the capability to burn the discs that can be played on the player
Any thought?!?!?!

You can make your own Karaoke machine with 3 op-amps, but it creates mono-audio since it needs both channels.
Op amp 1: Right channel into non-inverting opamp with gain of 1 Op amp 2: Left channel into inverting opamp with gain of 2 Op amp 3: Sum output of op amp 1 and 2 with adjustable gain.
Most cds are mixed where the instruments have different intensities on the left and right channels but the voice is usually the same strength on both channels, so when you invert one channel and add it to the other, you cancel out the audio and keep the instruments.
It's a cheappppp solution but suprisingly effective. Add a mixer and a microphone and you're set.

It looks like you could regain stereo if you added some more op amps...
Change Op Amp 3 to a set gain of 1
Op Amp 4: route both stereo channels through a non-inverting op amp with a gain of 1 Op Amp 5: run the output of op amp 3 through an inverting op amp with a gain of 2 Op Amp 6: Sum of output of op amp 4 and 5 through inverting op amp with gain of 2 (Results in Vocals Only)
Op Amp 7 (Right Output): Sum of output of Op Amp 1 and 6 with adjustable gain Op Amp 8: Left Channel into non-inverting Op Amp with gain of 1 Op Amp 9 (Left Output): Sum of output of Op Amp 6 and 8 with adjustable gain
In theory, this should work. I may be a bit off on the gains of each amp, but this essentially isolates the vocals from a combined mono signal and then filters those vocals from each channel independently. 3x as many op amps, but you retain stereo sound.
