No, I don't think so, unless anything as changed recently.

why don't they just forward it to people's alumni addresses after they graduate? all it would take is a little memory & cpu power on one of the servers.

Talk to the alumni association. They handle mail forwards, something like user@alumni.mst.edu

When I started (2004) I remember that IT used to handle something similar, but I could be mistaken.
