So around 8:15 or so this morning I heard the train hitting its brakes and saw it come to a complete stop. I live near the ZTA house and right across the street from the tracks and had to climb across the train to get to class at 11. Traffic had to find some other way to get across the tracks since the train was blocking it.

The story that I've been told is that the train hit a guy somewhere around the courthouse. The guy had headphones on and didn't hear the train and the conductor couldn't stop in time (mind you, it's a freight train, so they don't exactly stop on a dime)

This is secondhand info, so I'm just seeking to confirm/deny/get details

Confirmed. My understanding is the guy stepped in front of the train for fun, or intentionally, though no one can really know for sure what was going through his mind at that moment. Except, of course, for the cowcatcher.

Not positive, but I think the train was there until just before noon. I figured it was just a brake problem, I didn't think that someone was stupid enough to actually jump in front of one of those.

You can probably count on a MASSIVE increase in trespassing enforcement in the area for the next few months.

Really???

Does anybody realize how hard it is to get hit by a train? What special kind of idiot do you have to be to allow this to happen? Accidentally, of all things?

MOVE FOUR FEET OFF THE TRACKS. For x's sake he was already something like 2 feet off the tracks to begin with.

I know the news report doesn't specify if he had headphones in or not, but if he did indeed have his headphones on when he was walking by the tracks (as I've heard), he was pretty much asking for trouble. I can understand walking the tracks, but doing so while not paying attention to constantly check if there's a train coming?

I hate to say it, but if that's the case, he *was* a dumbass who had it coming.

edit: figured I'd change the tense to suit the situation.
