And again I state: Why is the message 2 part, and why does the time delay between repeat msgs so little that I get 2 copies of the 2 part message at once? Kicking me out of my YES reply several times... UGH.

When you say "To acknowledge this message, reply YES and send", the "and send" is a given part of the reply process. This cuts the message to below 160 and would half the number of texts sent... COME'ON </GOB>

Try getting two of everything and see how you like it then.

So yes, I got:

2 emails
2 phone calls
2 voice mail messages
2 pairs of a 2-part text message

It'd be nice, a couple years into this fucking thing, if they had the kinks ironed out.

If you press "1" on the first call, all subsequent contacts will cease. It is working EXACTLY the way it has to work as cell towers overload and to ensure that emergency messages get through, 2 cycles have to be run. The message WAS less than 160 characters. Just some carriers break them up for no good reason.

Add Verizon to that list as well.

T-Mobile too. Can't blame the carriers if they all had the same problem...

While I was a student, AT&T broke the message up when it was sent as well.

Blame the sender.

Kind of a problem when you're teaching a class at the same time it's being sent.....

Seeing as how this is an emergency alert system, I'd rather see students annoyed instead of un-informed in case of an actual emergency. Overall, I'd say it's effective as an alert system.

Exactly. It's tested to know it will ACTUALLY WORK if a true emergency occurs.

But it is easier to complain than understand...

Honestly, I don't really have anything to complain about either, with maybe a small exception as to the text message. Seems like it was 8-8-9 characters over, and that could probably be squeezed out of the extra spacing between sentences as well as changing "&" to "&" .

Other than that, I'd have to agree with locutus and heretic; if some poor freshman decides to go postal during finals week, I'd much rather get 2 text messages, 2 emails, and 2 phone calls telling me to stay off campus rather than waltzing into a scene from Modern Warfare 2...

I got one call, and so did several other people in the lab I was in. The calls didn't hit all at the same time, they were spaced out about 15-20 minutes. My phone was the first to go off, and I could hear other going off for about 20 minutes after that.

Not terribly helpful if you're on campus when something happens.

It would be curious to know what order the calls were made, as in were they dialed numerically or did were they called in alphabetical order by the account holder's name?

That could be something worth knowing.
