I sure don't remember it having been in business for any appreciable length of time since 2003.

the nightclub thing didn't last for any appreciable time (mostly because of lameness factor of even the idea of a nightclub within 100 miles of here in general), but it was open pretty much every night until 2007, give or take a month or two between owners. It was All-Stars, CJ's Uptown, DK's Uptown, and one other owner most recently.

It was really more of a redneck pool bar with karaoke most of the time, so aside from kmnr events it was always sort of unappealing to me.

It needs to be revamped into a concert venue or a theatre again IMHO.

To clear up the numerous miconceptions:

It has ALREADY been sold to the Alumni Association so whatever happens (razing and rebuilding or renovating) will be on the Alumni Association's dime. So no, ShadowCat, we don't get to decide what type of style it's rebuilt in. It will be built in whatever style the AA chooses and thus I would guess a shitty one because no one likes paying for quality/style anymore (see: Havener).

So, what then, you aren't a member of the alumni association, an organization I am pretty sure everyone that graduates or intends to graduate from S&T becomes a member of automatically? The alumni association is YOUR association. If you have a comment/suggestion/request, quit fucking bitching on this goddamn forum and make a couple phone calls. The level of apathy and laziness that gets shown by this campus's student body is almost terrifying. I hope you all have more initiative when you reach the workforce than you do right now. I'm making a call, if you REALLY do care all that much, maybe you should too, or at least go prance around with those other jokers at Havener if you think that will make a difference. At least then you won't just be sitting on your ass.

Hope they have free booze for alumni. Wouldn't that be nice.

1) I'm with the group that helped organize the protest tomorrow.
2) I've already contacted the alumni association and let them know my opinions.

Thanks for making all kinds of wrong assumptions though, you fucking cock slurping dickbag.

Anyone see the crowd outside of Havener at noon today? They had petitions, KMNR, and a will to do something. I was really impressed that a group this large has decided to do something about how they feel (instead of just bitching).

Anyone sign the petition today? Thoughts?

The online petition is above 1000 now and the hard copy petition is (if I had to guess/estimate) probably around a few hundred.

Cute, believing that the University gives a shit what you think. Remember when they had the polling data for the name change? 77% against, and they decided to pitch it as "23% for" and do it anyway.

+1. The university doesn't give a flying fuck what the students think. Normally with corporations, you can boycott and maybe send a message across, but what's everyone going to do? Drop out of college? Yeah, that's real smart. They have students by the balls here, we need them more than they need us.

I commend you for standing up for what you believe in, but unfortunately in this case, it really is a waste.

Sigh......

And once again, we are up against, not the whole university, but the alumni association. It will still be difficult to effect any change, but it's a lot more manageable than fighting against something that is spearheaded by the chancellor and university upper-management like the name change was.

While I believe this is a worthy cause, the problem is what we're against is some guy with a suit (or possibly a committee of said someguys) on that wants to put that he built this building on his resume, and he has all manner of bureaucratic channels to give people who care the runaround.

What makes me mad is that they call alumni constantly bugging them for money under the pretense that it is going be used to help students, and then they spend the money on this.
