I submitted a ticket yesterday around 2 when I lost connectivity, but thought it may have been a temporary fluke. Pisses me off that I don't have email again this morning. This is ridiculous. I called IT Helpdesk this morning and they said they are aware of the problem. I would get mad at IT if I didn't know that they originally had been pushing the Google option.
I wouldn't mind the outages all that much if only they had replicated the emails back to minermail or something so that when the Live is out, I could still check minermail, but right now I am wholly without email connections.
Looks like a lot more than the Univ of Missouri system is having problems. A quick look, I see Xavier, UNL, Univ of Cincinnati, Univ of Toledo, Ohio U, Missouri State, Univ of Georgia... just to name a few.
Funny, I never lost email connectivity on my phone, just the web interface. As far as I could tell I was still receiving emails normally. Could it have been as simple as the server that handles the forwarding links crashing?
the outlook live forum make it sound as if its an error with the DNS cache, as if the server is jumping IPs and the DNS isn't resolving the new connection.
Well it looks like there is some kind of progress being made. At the last ITCC meeting UM System VP for IT Gary Allen was there to discuss shared services and email. After discussing the topic there was a motion made to state that ITCC supports the Student Council recommendation that the University use Google Mail as the students' primary email system. ITCC also recommends that Missouri S&T do a pilot study of Gmail since it was never done. They also recognized the fact that Outlook Live has not been popular.

Thanks to the efforts of several student groups on campus and the IT committee of the Faculty Senate, S&T has been given the green light to begin a Gmail pilot for student email this summer.
You'll likely be asked to fill out an email preferences survey if you'd like to make the switch, especially if you currently use Outlook Live. As we work on the details this summer (when sign up will start, how to opt-in, etc.) we will provide updates via email and at http://itpress.mst.edu <http://itpress.mst.edu/> .
Registration is also still open for Google Apps for Education, which includes document, presentation and web collaboration tools. The registration process takes less than five minutes and can be started by visiting http://it.mst.edu/googleapps.html <http://it.mst.edu/googleapps.html> .
