I was just thinking about my taxes recently, I've had three jobs in the last tax year:

1) Worked for an old employer for a week over a break, Missouri
2) Did research for the univerisity, Missouri
3) Internship in Overland Park, KS (most of my wages)

My mom did my taxes with TurboTax and I got a fair amount of money back from Federal, but I owed several hundred to the state. I asked her just now and she said that she didn't think about the fact that my income was taxed in Kansas and filed the return for Missouri.

Has anyone had problems like this before? I assume I should have filed with Kansas also and gotten a return from them (hopefully enough to cover what I owed to the state).

you probably did it wrong.

I worked in michigan and missouri when I was in school. You have to fill out the federal and both states. Depending on how the state form is set up you have to enter your gross wages, then it will tell you to take off wages made in another state, which will leave income that is taxable by that state. Then you do all the math from there. Thats how Ive always done it anyway.

Figured it out. Yay for the internet.

Had to file a MO-CR form and received a tax credit for income tax paid in Kansas (couple hundred bucks), then got back money from my kansas income taxes after filing as a non-resident.

Be a real man, do your own taxes and prevent these problems.

I've been trying to do it myself since Freshman year but my parents always did it before I could get home for a weekend to learn.

PS - go fuck yourself.
