Anyone dumb enough to fall for that, especially when one line of the email says "University of Missouri" and the next line of the email gives an address in California, deserves whatever they have coming to them.

If you can, post the email headers. I'm painfully curious where this blatant phishing attempt came from.

I switched to GMail as well, and no, I didn't get that e-mail.

While it is a painfully obvious phishing attempt, there are painfully stupid people out there. Did you forward this e-mail along to (the real) IT? It'd be fun to get a fake account setup and reply to that e-mail to see where/how it gets used.

Giving them a fake account would be a bad idea. They'd then have access to the names and contact information of everyone at the university. They may also gain (unintended of course) access to other university systems, which they could then exploit.
