Have you made any configuration changes recently, such as added a firewall or modified an existing one? Have you changed ISPs?

Let me change my line of questioning - what changes, no matter how small, have you made to your system since the VPN connection last worked?

it's been kinda tweaked for the past month. sometimes it works the first try, today i had to try more than a dozen times for it to go through. it's still better than using that waste of memory called wake.

Depending on your application SSH tunneling might be a viable solution. Don't bother with Wake, use SFTP to get at your files; it's much less of a hassle.
