Fox is saying that an earthquake in Japan caused the recorded seismic activity or something. I only caught a part on the TV in McD's.

On the USGS website, they located it 385 km NE of Pyonyang, NK at a depth of ~0 miles, so its pretty manmade.

Working this morning, saw that the US confirmed radiation from the blast site: http://www.breitbart.com/news/2006/10/13/D8KO2H7G4.html

"Earlier in the day, CNN reported, citing two U.S. government officials with access to classified information, that the initial air sampling over North Korea shows no indication of radioactive debris from the event Monday that North Korea says was an underground nuclear test."

Does anyone think it's possible that North Korea doesn't have nukes? Isn't it possible they just detonated a bunch of conventional explosives as a bluff?

Yes. I find it hard to believe we didn't have satelites watching N Korea.

Oh, and you gotta love the "access to classified information" crap

I thought that the point of detonating them underground was that satellites WOULDN'T be able to tell us a damn thing.....

I assumed, and you know what happens when you do that, that 0 miles ment on the surface, but seeing the ~ I am guessing otherwise now.

That would make NK the first nation to fail its first nuclear test.

Well, how do you know we didn't fail our own first nuclear test? Or the Russians? It may sound funny, but would that really be something to brag about?

That might depend on the satellite:

Lots of talk about air sampling, though. I'm not a nuclear engineer, but would tend to think a properly sealed underground facility would prevent us from gathering that data.

This seems like a cool way to do it (should the sensitivity be good enough):
