This strikes me as a reasonable assessment of where we stand ATM:

Remember, Bush's speech is tomorrow night. I sure hope it addresses the present situation with a sensible plan. I've had trouble gathering details on the new Iraq strategy (aside from a proposed 20K man increase of our present forces on the ground).

I somehow don't think George Bush cares if anyone is up to speed on his strategy for Iraq. I honestly don't think anyone elses opinion matters. Bush and Co. are going to go ahead with their pushes, the pansies in Congress are going to let it go through, and life will march on (well, for us at least, for US soldiers and Iraqis? maybe not).

I've given up caring. I realize there is nothing I can do about it. Even in 2008 it looks like Hillary is going to get the nod for the Democratic Nom., and I can't imagine supporting her. The US wasn't supposed to be an aristocracy, Bush and Clinton are making me feel otherwise.

There's not much congress can do. Dubya doesn't need their approval to do this. He's commander in cheif, he can do whatever the hell he wants, even if a retarded baby gorilla knows its a bad idea.

As far as 08...who knows...I'm personally going to vote for Obama in the primaries, but if Hillary won the primary, I'd vote for her in an instant in the election. I have nothing against her, I just like Obama better and think he'd be a better president.

Agreed, there really isn't much Congress can do aside from pulling funding (which wouldn't look good, which means they probably won't do it).

I don't like choosing between the lesser of two evils. Obama seems awesome to me, I mean, he's articulate, seems progressive, etc.

It really isn't about seeing Democrats win. It's about watching Republicans lose.

Clinton will destroy the US and eat your babies... and if you don't have babies, your genitals... and if you don't have those, well, she probably gave birth to you.

Having Clinton win would suck I think. This country isn't an aristocracy, I don't want to see a bunch of Presidents related to each other. Also, her crap about violent video games. Ugh. Though it would be cool to finally have a woman Pres.

I agree, Obama seems unexperienced, but he's very charismatic. People like him.

I'm not super impressed with any of the Dem candidates right now, but I'll vote for them until some socialists get on the ballot. :D

Im not necessarily a Bush supporter, but does anyone else realize its not just Bush running the country. There are a lot of 'important' people who basically plan his moves for him. The president may have some power, but any president's power is limited and bascially they are all puppets.

Yes, those important people would be all of his political advisors and things like the Iraq study group which specifically told him a troop increase would not be a good idea and he completely ignored them...

If Obama or Hillary gets the nod I will not vote Democratic in 2008. Hillary wants to take away my violent video games and Obama wants to take my money and give it to Big Auto to bail out their pension/retiree-health-care funds so that Detroit can develop hybrid cars. UAW and Detroit made their beds with ridiculous retirement benefits, "job banks" and other union nonsense, now they can sleep in them for all I care.

Am I the only one who thinks that if Hillary or Obama get the nod in '08, there's no way the Democrats are going to take the Presidency?

There's so much widespread (and, I think, pretty baseless) hate for Hillary that I don't think there's any feasible way for her to win. I also think most Americans would have a knee-jerk reaction that wouldn't let them vote for a black man, especially not one named Barack Hussein Obama.

Granted, that sucks because otherwise Barack seems like a great candidate, and Hillary seems decent. But, I just can't picture them gaining many votes in the south or midwest. Without a good showing in at least one of those areas, there's no way for them to take the White House.
