I didn't read any of the posts because there is no need to, Al Gore is an utter douchebag no matter what he does, unless it involves sewing his own mouth shut.

Realistically, China and India are going to use coal because for them it is cheapest to use it, however they do not have the social conscience to investigate the clean coal tech.
So China uses coal because it's cheap, doesn't want to do research into "clean" coal tech because it's expensive, and doesn't really care about pollution. However, they are willing to spend money to buy expensive technology from us. Given the three entering arguements, that doesn't seem very likely.
Way to add to discussion. Now we all know how incredibly witty and well informed about this issue you are. If you aren't going to add anything valuable to the discussion, don't post.
Anyway, what the guy said about Al Gore's green fuel consumption still contributing to carbon waste, he is absolutely correct. Energy is energy, and if all the renewable energy is used up (whether it be by Al Gore or someone else), we turn to coal and other forms. Personally, i am a huge advocate for nuclear power, because not only is it incredibly efficient, its by-product is steam how fucking awesome is that!? George Bush was talking about his expansion of the nuclear power plants across the US in one of his state of the union adresses a while back, and what he said hit the nail on the head. I dont know much about what has been done since then but if any progress has been made, thumbs up George Dubya.
Also, for comedic value, which this thread is lacking...

I dont see anything that congress has done in the past 7 years to suggest that it is investing in nuclear power or alternative energy sources. History shows that what a president says he will do, and what he actually does, are two different things. Granted Al Gore uses waaaay too much energy, but at least he is recognizing the problem and asking for a government push to stop global warming. Gore should practice what he preaches, but the government has a responsibility to slow ozone pollution and create environmental standards. The fact that Bush refused to view Gore's documentary insinuates that the current administration doesn't want to recognize global warming; because recognizing that threat would force the president to act on the situation, which fox news says would 'bankrupt' the united states. Hard to bankrupt a country that spends more money trying to help a country that doesnt want our help than spends on reforming medicare, or pushing new feul technologies. More money is given to Isreal's army, 20 million dollars per day, than spend on researching alternative energy. Cleary the interest's of the current administration are in the wrong place, at the wrong time.
I <3 ENERGON CUBES!

Steam is a by-product of coal, gas, and oil plants as well. They all just have the particulates from the burned fuels as well.

It is cheaper to apply technology than to investigate and research it. I'm not saying that they will for sure, but it's a better bet.
Would you invent your own methods of making your car more gas efficient, probably not. Would you buy and install a device which is proven to make your car more gas efficient, more likely.
If American companies were to develop the technology, and pressure were put on China and India's governments then they could mandate use of the technology. Mining and other trends in China show that with social pressure they will change their regulations and requirements.

Or, more likely, they would buy one, reverse engineer it, and then become the world supplier of the technology...

Why not outlaw MURDER instead of trying to outlaw guns?
it shows the original release, which is what the first post of this thread is cut and pasted from. The source is dubious, but the AP did it's own sorry on Al gore's energy useage.
And of story, it's true lies. This is an orchatrated attack to try an invalidate Al Gore's platform.
Closing staement of the article:
"So, where is the disjunct between what he says and what he does? Unless you put words in his mouth, there isn't one. You might argue that it would be better for the environment if people like Gore lived in smaller houses and modified their lifestyles instead of shelling out bucks for carbon offsets -- and you might even be right -- but that's a policy disagreement, not proof that he's a hypocrite. Folks who dislike his politics will no doubt call him hypocritical just the same, but judged strictly in terms of whether or not Al Gore practices what he preaches, the case against him is a sham."

first: are you drunk?
second: no one ever said he wasnt practicing what he was preaching, though not completely. So no he is not a hypocrite but is he doing the best or absolute example for his cause no. When you are trying to lead a movement you should be the absolute example and those that follow could do the half assed thing but at least you got somewhere. If he is just going to do it half assed then what is he showing?

So they aren't saying he doesn't use far more electricity than the average household, just that he isn't a hypocrite. I don't care what you/they say, anyone who preaches conservation, and then turns around and uses FAR more electricity than most households in the country, is a hypocrite. No matter where that electricity comes from. If he reduced his electricity to average, then 19 more average homes could start getting their electricity from the so called "green" energy.

im surprised they can get away with releasing his financial information and stuff. just seems like a way only to defame someone, rather than accomplish anything.

What's you definition of global warming? Is it that the earth is warmer now than it was 70 years ago? Or is it that humans have played a major role in the current warming and that the earth is going to basically implode because it's so hot? Global warming is a vague term.

I often wonder how many in the stop-global-warming crowd are genuinely concerned about the problem and how many are simply using it as an anti-capitalism tool. I can respect the people that genuinely want to avert catastrophe, but if you're just using global warming to advance your douchebag socialist agenda then do us all a favor and go fly your private jet into the ocean.
To me, air pollution is a bigger problem than global warming. There is well documented evidence that air pollution leads to increased mortality. It seems to me that many solutions to the problem of air pollution will also reduce CO2 levels.
