Mr. LawDog raises some interesting points and brings to light some very important details that I had not seen before, but I'm not sure I completely agree with his denouncement of Freedom of Speech at "private" events. You still have the Freedom of Speech in private locations and at private events. The only difference a private location or private event makes is whether or not you have a right to be at said location/event. If you're invited somewhere or if the event/location is open to the public, then you have a right to be there until the organizers/owners ask you to leave. I'm not sure that the videos show if or when he was asked to leave by the organizers (the police are not the organizers of the event afaik)...

You're an idiot, give it up. This kid was asking for it.

Well I've certainly given up speaking to you now, as it seems you're incapable of having a discussion without resorting to personal attacks. Toodles.

Like John Wayne (supposedly) said: "Life is hard. Life is harder if you're stupid."

perhaps the videos don't paint a whole picture. if he asks someone to start recording after he is asked to leave, and demands to ask a question after the Q&A period is over - the it looks like he was a victim.

its kind of like the rodney king incident. the video everybody sees is just of a black guy getting beaten; they never see the several minutes of him fighting police officers before they hand his ass to him.

perspective can change a lot if there had just been a few seconds more of video. and the reason i think he doesn't have a few seconds more is it would be undeniable even to the 9/11 conspiracy, 2004 election conspiracy, cheny is actually an alien conspiracy theorists that this kid is just a punk asshole who got what was coming to him.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I've seen three other videos, but none of them really show anything more... just from different angles. If anyone does find video of the events leading up to the confrontation, I'd be interested to see it.

There's no doubt to me that the kid is a jackass. There's no doubt to me that the use of the taser was justified... you don't physically resist officers in a situation like that. I do have doubt over whether or not it was necessary or appropriate for officers to intervene when they did, and I think that could be cleared up by additional video footage (assuming it exists).

I talked to my friend at UF and she said that this guy is known to pull stunts like this. He's a known political activist there. There really isn't anything before or after the video, so you aren't missing anything. People that knew who he was knew that he was going to pull something so they got out their cameras and waited for the show.

I still think they were trying to escort him out for making a scene/asking a question at an inappropriate time(or in an inappropriate way)/etc, when he started freaking out. My thoughts would be that this was a sponsored event, and that you don't have a "RIGHT" to be there, so they were escorting him out, when he freaked, only THEN did he become under arrest.

Perhaps I was a bit liberal in my use of the word "right". I didn't necessarily mean it as in terms of a freedom, but rather a privilege. The fact of the matter is that if you are invited to a private event/location, or if it's open to the public, you can be there (and exercise your Freedom of Speech there) until the organizer/owner asks you to leave. The police generally don't really have any say in it.

Now, this may differ a bit on a college campus, where university officers are typically given authority by the curators to act in the interest of the university. Still though, I think there's definitely more to this case than what we've seen so far. I'm interested to see how it plays out in court.

Btw, I guess it was only a matter of time... lol...
