Oh god, you dealt with that too? Its like they padded every cost to them by at least 2.5X.

Really simple to get around this. Just pick up a program to extract audio from youtube videos. Make your own mp3s with no risk.

That is a terrible idea. The youtube quality is generally horrible and compressed. I can hardly listen to stuff on it when I am used to CD quality.

also, I typed out a big long argument (or at least started to) but realized that this was the internet and that ultimately it would be worthless to argue.

Even more worthless to argue over a thread that's a year old...

great now we've scared away a potential forum poster. though I think this is possibly one of the worst ideas for downloading music i've ever heard.

but i guess if you can't tell that youtube audio quality is terrible, and passing that through an audio converter makes it even worse - then it'd be an okay source for music. Its just that the only people I know of who have that bad of hearing have cochlear implants*.

*not meant to be an insult - just saying if you can't tell that the quality sucks, then ignorance is bliss. Just that the only individuals that i know of who have hearing that bad have to have some sort of audio amplification / hearing modification to hear anything at all.

Not to derail the thread here, but...

You know they're charging you for the service call, not the light bulb, right? It's more like $3 for the light bulb, $15 for the maintenance guy's wages, $5 to drive the truck up to your house, and $25 for calling them to change a goddamn light bulb and taking them off another job. Not saying they're not making money off the deal (and why shouldn't a business make money off of services, after all), but it's not as ridiculous as you might think. Realize also that just because you allocate $15 for the maintenance guy's wages, he won't see all those $15. Businesses pay taxes on employees above and beyond their gross wages.

Actually on the original topic of this thread, the judge in the case has apparently realized that he gave incorrect instructions to the jury when he told them that making copyrighted material available to download was to be considered copyright infringement. He's considering a re-trial. Article here.

Apparently the case was overturned. So for now, availability != infringement.
