I'm not going to sit through and read all these replies. I just have one sentence:

God helps those who help themselves.

So... you're saying that people should be legally required to seek medical attention? Specifically, medical attention in which, in many cases, the cure is worse than the disease - and not certain to actually be a cure?

Despite all our technology and research, most cancer-fighting we do today (with the exception of a few easily-detected and operable types, such as prostate cancer) is the equivalent of medieval blood-letting and waving chicken feathers. When my grandfather was dying in the hospital, I spent a lot of time in the cancer ward, and talked to a lot of patients and doctors. The first sentence of this paragraph is a quote from one of those doctors.

If your child has a broken arm, it may be child cruelty to not take him to the hospital - unless you can set the bone yourself and administer painkillers, etc. Still though... a law forcing you to seek medical treatment that is at best uncertain, painful, and extremely expensive?

I dont think it should be a blanket policy, but this case yes they should get charged, maybe not with murder.

Looking at the legal precedents for babies that died being fed certain diets would probably be a good way to see where the case should go. After all we can't have religion factor into the judicial process.

Yes, yes they should. They should not be required to receive treatment (such as a treatment that may be worse than the disease). But for something that could be easily helped by antibiotics, why shouldn't they get everything taken care of? Luckily, I am coming from a family that has had medical insurance for as long as I can remember.

Quite frankly I don't think anyone should be required to seek diagnosis/treatment for themselves. But a small child in their care, yes.

I think information should at least be found out before a choice should be made, a diagnosis (generally) does not cost a lot and does not involve immense pain.

That is essentially what I was trying to say.

FrankieM in your opinion who has more ownership over a child, the state or the parents?

I dont think it has anything to do with who "owns" a child

A child does not have the ability to make decisions for itself, and it is the parents responsibility to do what is right for their child. It is the same for doctors who make decisions and if that decision had blatant disregard for the persons health they are held accountable.

A. Your name is not FrankieM
B. Frankie asserted that people should be legally required to seek medical attention.

Because Of B I would like to know FrankieM's opinion on the ownership of a child and also ownership of a functional adult.

I asserted that parents and guardians should be required to seek medical attention for those in their care. I could care less how another adult chooses to care for themselves.

Do you consult your academic advisor for advice with your bf/gf?

Do you you consult a priest on which engineering classes to take next semester?

Why should you consult yourself regarding medical advice?

If a parent is incapable of caring for a child, someone needs to.
