Yea, read that article. It is true, the engineering team (10 guys) at a manufacturing company that I have worked at over the past summers only has one guy that has an actual engineering degree and the others have a "business engineering" degree. However, that article focuses on not as many doctorates in science and engineering fields being comming outta school. And actually an increase in science and engineering degrees have been issued since 1990. But many of these degrees are issued to graduates of ITT Tech and other institutions such as that.

I love reading articles about there being less students in the IT majors and such. It just makes my degree worth more when I get it.

Forget it. I graduated UMR 6 years ago, and trust me, the job market will not get better or easier for you. New development is following maintenance over to India, and it will not slow down anytime soon. Hang on to any job you can get after you graduate, and have a back-up plan. Seriously. Develop another skill that does not involve computers. People who were on their way up the ladder when I started work are getting laid off now, and nobody wants them because they're too expensive. They're taking basically intern jobs, and those will not last either.

Not to be all pessimistic, but IT is saturated and you will need other skills.
