I have very little knowledge of laptop hardware so this may seem like a really silly question. My Compaq Presario 2100 has stopped receiving power when I have the power adapter plugged in. I was wondering if this could stem from a bad battery. Or, if I have the power adapter plugged in, then the battery would not be the issue. Does anyone have a clue what might be wrong?

The Presario 2xxx units have problems with their power jacks separating from the motherboard. I have a 2175 that had that problem. I have a couple of batteries if you want to test. I replaced my power jack, $7 for a new jack after shipping, and a couple of hours to make the repair.
