One of the features I like about iTunes is that I can drag and drop a bunch of songs onto the library and it will move them to the correct artist-album folder on my harddrive. Then if I change a song artist or album it moves the file accordingly. Does winamp do that?

Also, does winamp allow for the creation of "smart" playlists say based on strings I put in the comments part of the idv3 tag?

Finally, can winamp import rankings from itunes?

First off, I've never used iTunes; sorry.

However, from past versions of Winamp (and I've been using it since, oh, 10 years ago), there is no feature that I'm aware of that will move songs to the correct artist-album folder. I admit, that is pretty nifty that iTunes can do that.

And no, I don't think it does 'smart' playlists either, but I don't really know what that means. I've always done it the old-fashioned way (load a playlist of whatever songs I want and if the shuffle isn't getting it done, I pick whatever I want manually).

BTW, do you remember during our freshman week when you randomly came up to me and told me that you knew me from TeamXBox? I'm still freaked out about that. You're cool, though. [/flashback]

It definitely lets you make smart playlists based on all sorts of things, i don't know about the comments part of the id tag tho, never tried that.. Although I'm not sure why you'd need to, it lets you use all sorts of parameters, rating, genre, just about any info there is..

[Edit] Ok yeah, I checked on it. They're called 'smart views'.. lets you create a playlist that only includes files that meet certain criteria. Comments are included in the list of allowed comparison criteria. It even shows you all the comparison operators you can use and the format it should be in.. so even a n00b can do it.

I might try to switch again with the new version, iTunes on windows seems more crippled than the mac version with quicksilver and sizziling keys.

I use the comments section to write comments (duh?) such as loud, light, party, screaming, etc. and then make playlists based on that. Think of it like tagging your music last.fm style except ideally smart playlists could be made in any player quickly without having to re-add all songs I want.

Honestly the thing I dislike most about iTunes is that there is an overwhelming lack of hot-keys and global hot-keys. Having to right click on a song and clicking play next in party shuffle is rather tedious especially when I was used to using quicksilver to do it all in a few seconds without touching the mouse or switching to iTunes.

Oh, and Scott, don't feel freaked out, you are not the only one I have stalked....

Yeah..I realized the usefulness pretty quick when I thought about it after I had posted.

That is kinda nice that iTunes will rearrange your files, but as I remember it rearranged some of mine when I didn't want it to. Also, why does iTunes feel it must be updated once a week? I honestly don't know why I still have it on my computer..

Well the recent updates have added things to make iTunes work with the iphone and the ipod touch etc. Ringtones...sync...blah blah blah. And apparently they never get it right the first time.

The only issues I have with iTunes putting it in the wrong place is if you have the option to file as a compilation. This will put soundtracks together or collection (best of the 80's etc.) instead of going by artist. Sometimes that can be confusing.
