I think it has to do with the traffic shaping stuff. If its not school related they make it go really slow.

Ya, I was told by an IT guy on Friday that the campus's internet connection has been completely maxed out as of late and everyone is experiencing issues with bandwidth. He said they are working on it, but don't have a solution yet.

Get the RIAA/MPAA to fund an additional fiber line with all the additional income they simply MUST be getting since now everybody at UMR is suddenly buying DVDs and CDs because its impossible to steal...

[/sarcasm]

edit: or get the douchebag, i mean Chancellor to fund it out of the massive bribe i suspect he received for complying with a request to packet shape so complacently.

Somehow I doubt the Chancellor even knows what a packet is. From hearing Karl Lutzen speak at ACM in the past, it sounds like he has quite a bit of control over the traffic shaping. It also sounds like it's still a work in progress, and obviously has a lot of kinks to work out. I could be wrong, but that's just the impression I got from his presentations. Regardless, I have a feeling that streaming audio/video (except for distance courses) will always be lower on the priority list.

This isn't a testbed, I'm tired of stuff not working. This includes the website being down the night before a physics test. This is ridiculous and they need to get their shit together.

I think it is ridiculous that Greeks are paying an extra 50 bucks a semester, but slower internet! Last year I had blazing fast internet until I had used up my bandwidth, now Im not ABLE to use up my bandwidth watching stupid videos online!

They did up the IT cost thru SAFB but they also tacked on a 50 charge to people living in Greek Housing rather than on campus.

It was to upgrade your house's switches and connection to campus not necessarily your internet connection. Currently they are working on getting wireless install in all the houses.
