For all you Ubuntu users out there, its out. Anyone installed it yet or have plans to? I think it's probably going to be on my computer by the end of next week.

Question for the linux gurus out there, would Ubuntu increase battery life on a laptop (it is a Dell I bought this summer new) it just doesn't quite have enough battery to make it through my day, would there be any improvement in battery life over Vista?
I'm not sure about battery life but I switched my laptop to Ubuntu and it runs a lot cooler than when I ran XP on it. It rarely overheats now and am happy that I made the switch.
I have it running on my iMac. Works quite well. I'm going to try to use it more often, it seems like its one of the first Linux distros that can truly be used as a everyday desktop OS
I hope to get the new version up at least in VMWare Fusion some time next week
That was interesting, I had no idea it used more power but I wonder why it runs cooler than XP? Anyone know or does it just happen to be a fluke with my laptop?

I've been running the release candidate since Monday. Compiz-Fusion finally seems stable enough for every day use, and it feels so much more responsive.

i got the ISO's and am going to install it on an old eMachine T1840 i got from a friend when i get the chance and turn it into a bitch-box / linux toy. As of now the machine is shutting down mid-install (send kill signals then turns off) so i'm thinking it might be a heat problem. I'm isolating hardware components to see if they may be causing the problem also.

Running it now, albeit with KDE. Can't wait for KDE4.

Posting from it now as well. Its pretty nice, Compiz works great out of the box and I didn't have any problems upgrading from Feisty.
I'm still debating switching to Mint though. Its basically just Ubuntu with Gnome tweaked a bit but I really like the interface. Alas I'm too lazy to reconfigure everything to get my forward/back mouse buttons to work and everything else I had to tweak to get Ubuntu running the way I want, so I just upgraded to Gutsy and I'm impressed. I'll probably just stick with it.
