My fiancee's flash drive that contained a ton of stuff (nearly-completed homework assignments and the like) just accidentally snapped in half as it was plugged in. The plug separated from the chip. There were four connectors that go from the plug to the chip, so I could line those up and plug it in but it said that the drive needed to be formatted. That was the only option.

I tried a bunch of data recovery programs to no avail. I have an identical flash drive that could be sacrificed if it meant recovering the information. I just don't know where to go with this though. If I can't get any help anywhere, I think my only option would be to go ahead with the format and then try all those data recovery programs again and see if I can get lucky.

Recovering data from solid state memory is practically impossible. I think you will have to call that one a total loss. The sudden loss of power, or unstable power surges that occurred when the drive was broken while docked probably corrupted the data, and is why it says it needs to be formatted.
