Hey guys,

I'm looking to move out of the dorms next fall, did a few searches of the forum, and came across old ISP discussion.

What do you guys recommend for internet+maybe cable usage?

fidelity is really your only choice

if you want to sign a contract (supposedly you dont have to) there is embarq, but since its dsl it depends on where you live

Fidelity is probably the worst ISP you will ever have to deal with, basically just get ready for it

Yep.

I suggest just be prepared for some non-lubricated anal penetration courtesy of your local neighborhood cable company.

If you can get embarq - do it. Also- I never signed a contract, though I've been in the same house for over a year. They've got good customer service, great speeds (by comparison to everything else in town), and if you ask right, you can get naked DSL. If you have embarq available - go with them.

How do you get the naked DSL? What is the price on that?

Well try calling them up and telling them you want that - see if they'll give it to you. If not I know its a customer retention practice to offer it if you mention you don't want the phone service and are dropping them as a company.

You pay full price on the DSL (so no bundle discount). If you sign up with just the most basic phone setup (dial tone - everything outside of local costs per call), but canceling this to get the naked DSL will save about $10-20 per month on phone charges.

I'm fairly sure they're required by law to offer naked DSL - and they know it, they just hope you don't. Keep pushing till you get it.
