There are two computers on either side of campus. One has a SMB (Samba) server running on it for file distribution. The other has a SMB client that is intended to backup all of the files on the server. The files on the SMB server are Photographs and Yearbook-related junk from the past two years; in essence, legitimate binary business.
I am backing up the file server through the network. This is approx. 100GB worth of data that needs to be streamed through the network between the computers. It started at 3.4MB/Sec, and now it is chugging long at 145KB/Sec. Can anybody explain the slowdown?
tl;dr: File transfer over network started fast (3MB/Sec). After some 60 gigabytes of data transfered, now going slow (145KB/Sec). Explain?

Out of curiosity, can you explain a little more about the two locations?
Sorry for the vagueness. The server was located in Altman Hall. The client was located in the Computer Science building, 3rd Floor.

i just thought of something else, KMNR is in altman, and we run a dd-wrt linksys router and it gets throttled/has funky connections ALL THE TIME (at least for me)
