I built an EVGA 680i with a Core 2 Quad Q6600 back in 2007.

About a month ago it wouldn't boot. EVGA RMA'd the mobo.

They sent me back a 780i. I just got it all hooked up and I'm getting FF on the status LED. There is also a blue, amber, and red LED lit up. The red LED is under the connector for the CPU fan.

Ideas?

I tried to measure the 8 pin(2 4pin) cpu power connectors. I was getting 12.4V. What should I try next?

start component by component to check for error codes. boot without a processor, should get an error code for no cpu. then with cpu, will get an error for no ram. add ram, should get error for no video card. etc.

i've had to do this with two builds. one had bad ram, another had a bad PCI-X slot for the video card.

I pulled the computer out of the case, and tried to boot on cardboard. Same issues.

I just realized I forgot to mention the power supply is acting kind of strange.
I heard a continuous thumping noise. The exhaust fan starts, runs, and then stops. It keeps trying to get the fan going.

Going to Fry's to pickup a new power supply. Any recommendations? They have corsair in stock, I've heard good things about their power supplies.

PSU isn't all that important as long as you don't skimp. Check the power on the rails and make sure they aren't weak and you should be fine. Some inexpensive ones are really good, some expensive ones are crap. I hate buying PSUs...

Got a corsair. Computer POSTs now.

The old PSU was a OCZ. Died 22 days after the 3 year warranty.

Thanks for the advice.
