Anyways... I moved out of TJ into those appartments between TJ and The EE building... you know. I think they are on pine street.
(I recommend them because they are cheeeeeap... and I am poooor).
So poor infact that I don't want to pay for internet.
My laptop was stolen this summer so I put a D-Link wireless PCI card in a crapy desktop.
I was wondering if anyone was getting any luck with UMR's wireless AP from that area? Any rouge AP's from someones wireless linksys router? I would scan but since I cant get on the internet I can't download netstumbler or anything.
I did, however, find and AP on channel 6 (using the crappy d-link software which is very limited). I could not connect to it since it had no SSID... very odd. I still need to regester my D-Links MAC.
If anyone has any knowledge of this stuff... I am open to advice. I would hate to get a stronger antenna and have it still not work. I am using the standard antenna that came with the d-link. If anyone has a war driving laptop and could walk up by those appartements and let me know what you find.... I'd give many thanks.
pine st. is not between tj & ee. i assume you're talking about the apartments by lot 35.
i have found a satellite uplink and a few ap's around that area. i don't remember their strength or speed, but they are around. not all of them were umr. there will surely be somebody in those apartments with wireless you could leech off/break into.

You are reffering to the North Pine Appartments.
Those are between TJ and EE across from the laundry building.
I spotted an AP on channel 6 but it has WEP turned on.
If only some bastard would aim a 9 or 24 dbi antenna with a 1 watt amp from a 2.4 gHz A.P. out their window and aim it at my apartment... ha ha... I guess I can dream.
I noticed the wep ap. I might even pay a little to leach bandwidth... so if you have an ap I can see... let me know.
Your best bet in the apartments is to convince some one in the nearby fraternity to run a high power WAP. I think if you had a line of site antenna over to campus you should be able to get signal, but it would be some work.
