so i went home last weekend to party it up in the stl...ANYWAY while i was up there i decided to take back my minidisc deck and all my minidiscs that i had given to my dad (i knew he didn't use them, he just had them hooked up to look cool) because i had a lot of pretty rare ska shit recorded on a couple of discs. ANYway, one of the songs that i really liked came from what i remembered to be a really good band, the GREAT WHITE NORTH. i remember hearing them a lot on the radio (SKA's the limit on 88.whatever) but a google search for "'great white north' ska" yielded nothing useful. has anyone heard of this band? i think they were pretty popular back in the day.
...well... i THINK that's the band name. if it's not the band name, it's the song name. in which case i'm screwed because i'll never find out who it was because all the track has listed is "GREAT WHITE NORTH" on my MD.
if anyone is into that shit i'll probably be dubbing all that shit into mp3 via my MD deck. sound quality isn't hte best (POS recording equipment of some 3rd rate ska band > radio > cassette > minidisc) but it's still really good shit

Jaya the Cat and Authority Zero are two pretty decent ska bands. Also, if you don't mind kinda weird lyrics but a killer sound, look up AFI's early stuff. I doubt anyone on seek has Jaya the Cat (is a Canadian band that hit it big over in Europe), so if you want me to, let me know and I'll be sure to share what I have of them.

Somebody has Jaya the Cat shared, unless that's you
they're pretty cool, kinda like sublime, although i prefer more horns.
But yeah, go ahead and share what you got.

I've got jaya the cat \\jb Great band, not really ska though...in order for it to be ska there have to be horns. I've also got a lot of small name ska bands on my computer. I'm working on getting more, but it may take a while.
It can be considered ska if it has the basic two tone beat, making it kinda sound like reggae, but it has no horns.
A popular example of this would be Santeria by Sublime. But, yeah, I like the horns, it's what makes ska, ska.
And also, some of the songs on \\JB cant be accessed.
The Specials and English Beat are ace in my book. Haven't really heard enough from bodysnatchers to make a fair judgement, but I've liked what I've heard.
You might want to check out Common Rider, it seems like it might be up your alley. Its Jesse Michaels, the singer from OpIvy's, (kinda) new band. If you're the same Beane from KMNR, I know we have their first album in the library, but thats it. Its their best work anyways.
I usually have the other Common Rider cd shared on \\hdnsbitch, but I just wiped the hard drive. It might take a while to get it back up and running, cause I'm doing some changes in hardware, but I might just share it out on my laptop.

I'll haven't heard a lot of bodysnatchers either. (Haven't really heard a whole lot of English Beat either, for that matter). I have been trying to find some bodysnatchers MP3s, but they seem pretty rare. I don't think their stuff was ever released on CD. Found a couple though. I love "Rude Girls Take Over".
I will check out Common Rider. I approve of Op Ivy.

Skip the story and go straight to the end of my post if you just want the damn song :)
Kind of a wierd thing how I came across this: I mod on techspot.com and we have an IRC room, and some dudes in there last night were talking about Joe Satriani, so I thought I'd dl some. And whoever was/is sharing Time Machine doesn't have all of it, but as I was listening (never heard that cd set anyway) I noticed speed of light abruptbly cut into what sounded to me like some ska band rather than Satriani and it was pretty amusing to me.
So I broke out the trusty google to see what was up, and after a couple failed Satriani searches for this crap I tried something else, and found that is a theme song (perhaps is obvious if you know the song), then I searched some more for an mp3, and finally resorted to Kazaa and found exactly what I needed.
I don't know how gay UMR is about me hosting something thats not probably exactly legal, (it is not indexed from my main page though so thats good). So I'll probably take it down in a day or so, perhaps someone on campus could dl it and share it if you like so I can remove it soon. EDIT: See below
