Summary:

1. You are no longer required to take the FE Exam as part of your BS CpE
and BS EE degrees.

2. ECE will reimburse you for your $10 fee if you choose to not take the
FE Exam.

Details:

On June 17, the S&T Faculty Senate approved ECE's request to no longer
require that graduates of the BS CpE and BS EE take the FE Exam as their
senior assessment. The Provost still needs to approve our suggested
senior assessment tools, which consists of the senior survey
administered in Cp/EE 391 and assessment of the senior design projects.
I do not expect any major problems, but this approval will probably not
be obtained until sometime in the Fall semester.

So, if you want to opt-out of taking the FE Exam, do not do the second
step of the registration process and do not pay the additional $125 fee.
If you do not pay the additional $125, the ECE department will reimburse
you for the $10 fee you paid to the Missouri Board when you did the
first registration step in the spring semester. You will need to let
Joni Matlock (room 142 EECH) know by September 30th if you want the $10
to be reimbursed and she will need your student number and mailing
address.

I had hoped that it would have been approved at the April meeting, but
it was tabled pending some changes in the catalog that needed to happen
first.

It's really not that big of a deal. If you're an EE there is a specific PM test for you, and it is pretty easy. The AM exam is okay, but they give you a nice reference manual. If you're going into power, a lot of companies look for people who have passed the FE so it's a good idea to take it.
