Howdy, It has been a while since I've been on here too. It seems to be dying out. I am curious about this whole forum and how it got started. Does anyone have any information? Also the StrongDC++ server has been down for a while. What is the reasoning for this does anyone know who created it and could pass it on or something?

But nah good luck finding answers, people are here but its hard to check the site every day when there is work to do and lives to live. Question about DC++ sould be directed to a different board, Zero can handle that question.

Sorry about breaking the reply tree btw.
Its ok we can revive it. One quote at a time. Forum started years ago back in y2k which was 3 years before I got involved, knew about it in 2002 when I was still in HS after visiting campus for a week. The forums were a secondary function to the initial which was file sharing between campus computers. Seek42 provided indexing and easy search functionality for students to share. We had some issues with Campus IT as when you opted into the sharing system Seek registered your opt-in by IP which were not statically assigned so if your DHCP address didn't renew and was assigned to another PC, particularly a campus PC, seek would then try and index the campus PC and/or servers. It was tweaked to use the student-id FQDN system they had setup on campus that you registered your MAC address with to get online. That worked for a little while but it didn't last long. Thus Polly was started which was an on campus torrent system which worked amazingly but was also short lived. We reverted back to windows file share, and most people frequented some of the larger share collections and basically everything was gotten from those select few "servers". I left in 2008 and am not sure how long the file sharing continued on campus but I believe the DC++ was used for a while but I never messed with it as I went off campus in 05. I could ramble on, but I.. yea..

Got an invite to local alumni sat. pats last week, reminded me of Rolla. It is the only place I can talk about the physical limitation of nano materials in regards to Moore's law and not be stopped every five seconds by somebody asking what I am talking about. I really want a job where I can use half of what I learned there. Still glad to see this site is still up and running. Just wish there was more activity, every time I come here it is a ghost board. Any big changes since 2013?

There were tons of chances to revitalize the forum, but what was the point?
And greenstar, I doubt that anyone that's checking here has been enrolled for a few years or more. '09 myself. Though I've visited the campus a few times since. Some building swaps, and the power plant isn't being used. Geothermal now, though I doubt that it was cost effective.

I haven't logged in for 9 years... but I am still alive and kicking. It looks like I've seen better days than this forum. Looks like nobody has posted anything for a long time. What is the new hotness these days at MST?
