Ok, I'm graduating in 1 week and have a good job lined up with a good bonus. My question is what type of HD TV should I look into buying. Right now I'm probably looking most seriously at the DLP ones since non-projection LCD and plasma are expensive as hell. I'm looking at the 46" and 50" samsung DLP TVS. However, I also do not like the fact that DLP's have mechanical parts (the moving mirrors and colorwheel). Any thoughts?

What you should do is check out consumer reports, get the top three or so in the category that you're look ing at, and then rent each one for a week (from Rent-A-Center or a similar place).
IMO, i'd go with either rear projection or dlp. those samsungs are really nice and cost far less then sony or hitatchi. i just bought a 27" samsung last semester and i love it. the picture quality is great compared to the sony's i looked at. i have my ps2 connected with the component wires and it makes the picture quality phenomenal. if you go in the game room at havener, that's a samsung dlp. with the holiday (crap, cant rememeber if its memorial or labor) coming up, there's going to be hella sales. my dad got his sony rear proj. on sale a couple years ago.

All that said, eventually I'd personally like to get an LCD projector. If you have a room you want to devote to this, that's really the way to go, I think. You can make the viewing screen any size you want, as long as that size is big. You don't have the angling problems that rear-projection TV units have, where you only have about 40° of viewable range on the TV before the light filter on the screen starts cutting out the picture. Projectors are easier on the eyes too, because you're seeing a reflection, not staring into a lightbulb.
The problems with getting an LCD projector, of course, are you have to have a room that you can make pitch dark, and you have to have a white screen or smooth white wall to shoot against. You're also pretty much required to have a component sound system. But I think if you want to do it right, that's really the way to go.
when i was shopping with my parents when they got their last TV i was hesitant to get a projection TV just because i've always used CRT before, but the problem is they're expensive, heavy, and don't normall come in sizes greater then 36"... they ended up getting a 46" sony rear projection HDTV... aside from being a pretty nice TV, the remote is super conveneint... that's one thing i can't stand is TVs with shitty remote layouts... you gotta have volume and channel and recall buttons close togehter i once saw a tv remote with the channel number buttons layed out in rows of FOUR... it went 1 2 3 4, 5 6 7 8, 9 0 ch- ch+..... its the biggest pain in the ass ever
It depends on what your hoping to do on your 'TV'. If you're planning on gaming, and really planning on using the HD features, ie. movies/digital cable, then you should probably go with a nice HD TV, but....
If you're looking for just a nice looking 'HUGE' screen...DLP projector is the only way to go. I have an Infocus X1 that I got about a year and half ago for right at $1000. Definitely cheaper than most projection TV's. And...like others have said...I've devoted a room to it...there's nothing cooler than watching a DVD or playing some game on a sweet 120" screen. It literally takes up the whole wall, about 10' wide x 7 ' tall.
Anywho....I've seen some DLP's cheaper than mine, but you'll have to look into the brightness, contrast, and many other aspects. Movies look amazing, and the room doesn't "have" to be completely dark...but the darker the room, the easier to see the picture.
I noticed that too, it is refurbished by Infocus though...and only comes with a 90 day warranty...but if I had the money, and was shopping..I might get it.
