I'm thinking of taking the CLEP test for Histoy 175, American History I. Has anyone taken the test, and if so how easy/hard is it? I need to fill out a lower-level humanities course and this fits it. I haven't had history since HS but I still remember quite a bit. How hard is it to study for a CLEP test?
I took that one last year. It seemed pretty hard as far as history tests go - lots of material I wouldn't have known had I not studied. That being said, I got considerably higher than I expected, so it may give you quite a bit of leeway for wrong answers.
Studying wasn't all that difficult - I read through an old history textbook from the class, jotted down some tidbits that looked important and that I didn't know and memorized them.
I don't know about the english - I passed the AP test (though the class is a joke so I hope you could pass the Clep). I took the Gov. CLEP test and passed that by a fair margin by studying a bit, and passed the Micro econ CLEP by ONE point without studying or really having classes in it.
Good luck on em.
PS - make sure you check on your credits...I was still going back a year later after they STILL didn't get some credits in...

What about the one for english 20?
Take the english one, it'll save you time and money. It's very similar to the english section of the ACT. I had some pretty good english teachers in HS, which was apparently good enough, as i took the test and passed it w/o a lick of studying.

So is it like the english section only or is there a section similiar to the reading comprhension portion of the act (read pointless articles then answer questions about it)?
It's not too late. Simply take the test and drop the class if you pass it - if you don't pass then you're all registered.
And yes, I believe it is all worthless questions about stupid articles. I remember tons of wasted time saying thats the dumbest article I ever read... And why do the questions have nothing to do with it?

Yes, there's a reading comprehension part. I think. It has been about 2 years, so don't blame me if i'm wrong or they've changed the test format.
English 20 Clep test is extremely easy. You only need like 55 or so out of 90. It's pretty much grammar and comprehension. It as long as you know how to read and write decently it should be a cakewalk.
