Has anyone taken this classs.. and if you did ..how is it..is it diffucult? interesting..one of the main reasons i took it is because wilkerson teaches it..and he is one of the best comp sci teachers..
The class is really, really easy - probably one of the easiest courses in the whole department. As for the material, it's pretty interesting, and ties in well with the compilers course, specifically in the areas of parsing data.
It's all theory, so no programs to speak of, with the whole class boiling down the three homeworks and three tests.
330 covers the basics of automata and is actually a core fundmental of the theory behind real computer science. And I do mean basics.. it barely touches on anything advanced. As such, 330 concepts are pretty easy - I don't think Wilkerson could make them complicated if he tried...
But without it.. everything remotely interesting regarding languages, AI and some other interesting topics in CS are pretty impossible to even touch. So while it might be easy, it's pretty important that you really understand the concepts taught.
Its the best course I have taken. Go 4 it. Dr. Wilkerson is cool and calm as ever. The course is very easy to understand and if you are regular there are many bonus points and an easy A
