I saw a funny sleeper drag like that a while back. It was some Camaro SS vs a mid-80's Chrysler woodie-style minivan. The minivan pulled up on the original engine, everybody was laughing quite a bit. Then he started up the second engine he had, some 900 WHP V12 in the back, beat the Camaro rather badly. I think he ran an 8.something. Made me laugh.
Here's a question for you guys. Why do some engines run chains as the timing belt and others like mine and newer cars run a rubber belt that has potential to slip nad needs replacing at around 75k miles

A lot of older engines with chains end up having them replaced around 80K anyways. This is because older style chains were coated with nylon to reduce noise. As the nylon wore off, the chain developed slack, and eventually jumped a tooth.

Boo to all FWD cars, even physics is against you. At least Honda's are fun to laugh at... "This is an 81 Honda, how dare you!" Employee of the Month

Very true. That's why I won't even try to get some race gas numbers since it's totally useless on the street. A couple things that are nice is that I can break 10's on less then $9,000 with a car , still get around 28-30mpg (without a heavy foot), and it's a VERY accessible car if you have to repair something.

A lot of companies still use chains. Nissan does. Best guess is to save money in manufacturing and make more money when people come to service.

Hmm, $9,000 eh? Not bad, but you can do 10's on $2,004, and thats doing it the classic way. Check these links for a Nova at Grassrootsmotorsports 2004 challenge, the same team was back the next year with a nice lil Fiat that did 11's.
Theres a video of one of the passes on the Nova's page.
Oh and a Honda is no where near as accessable as a Chevy C-10, two people can sit inside the engine compartment, maybe more, I haven't tried yet.

Good stuff! I love seeing junk cars go. Got anything on the prices/parts list. Seemed like they only listed a few things, but I can't see how only that would put them in the 10's.
I'm not goig to start an argument, but I'm pretty happy at how much money I spent on it. I'm sure you can find me something cheaper and faster, but is it also daily driven (comfortable)? reliable? good mpg? Again you may find something, but I think I found a great combination of these things I wanted and it works well for me.
Where is the grassroots event held? Seems like I can make it to the top of that list if I really wanted. Might as well win something .
