Bah humbug. Cards drop game 2 to a spectacular pitching performance by Kenny Rogers. Made it interesting in the 9th, but nothing really came of it.

I think LaRussa should've made a bigger deal about it. If they could've gotten him ejected, it might've been a whole different ballgame

Yeah, I didn't get the "wash it off" shit. So if someone breaks the rules (I don't know whether he did or not, but I would have sure as hell found out if I was in charge) you punish them by making em do what they were supposed to do in the first place? That sure would discourage cheating   ....

Yeah I don't believe that either. There are pics of his hand from the previous 2 series when he pitched lights out and he has that stuff on there too. Not only would he have gotten ejected, he probably would've been suspended for the remainder of the World Series. Right now it seems that no one has their story straight on how the situation was handled.

What I was surprised about was during the in-between innings interview, Joe Buck asked LaRussa about it, and LaRussa said something to the effect of, "I don't want to answer that during the ballgame." Hmmm...

EDIT: I realize that this was largely professional curtousey, but still something to think about.

5-0 St. Louis for Game 3. Carpenter was dominant, and bad fielding again by Detroit helps us win.

Somebody on CNN's page pointed out that many pitchers use all kinds of stuff (sunscreen, pine tar, etc.) However, pine tar works best in the cold. LaRussa may not have pressed the issue because it's possible that it would have hurt the Cards too, since Detroit would likely respond in kind against their pitchers.

I heard that although it's against the rules, most players have come to accept the use of the pine tar because that ball is damn hard to hold on to when its that cold. It's pretty much part of baseball.

One hell of a game tonight, it definitely was a nail biter at the ending, but we still won and are now 1 win away from the WS title!
