i have a question that surely someone can help answer. essentially, my transmission lags big time (takes a while for it to finally shift). what could be causing this? it's an automatic 96 town & country.

p.s. about six months ago i pulled the transmission and replaced an axle bearing for the second time in about 2 years. could this former problem be causing this latter problem?

Do you mean it takes a while to get in gear from park or takes a while to shift gears when you're driving? If it's the first case, it's leaking clutch pack seals. If it's the second case, it sounds like your bands are out of adjustment. I don't think a 96 would have a vacuum modulator so my guess would be bands.

is it low on transmission fluid? It you didn't assemble it quite right, it may have a leak somewhere, and if this is the case, then it sounds like it has lost enough fluid to have trouble building up enough pressure to engage the next gear.

Also, if you drive long enough with an extremely low amount of transmission fluid, the transmission will corrode to the point of self destruction, even if you eventually refill it. This has happened to my fiancee's car, and now it slips out of gear in all gears while driving down the road. She had a pretty massive transmission leak, and didn't notice it until it was WAY too late.
