How about one at a time, with supervision? More shooting at paper or steel targets, less shooting of selves and others?

I know you can store shotguns at the shooting range, but will they store pistols? I'm looking to buy a pistol when I turn 21 but I can't store it in TJ. If they do store weapons there, what do they charge?

I was unaware that there was any gun storage there at all.

There are several options to safely and legally store your gun while you live in TJ. Send me a PM if you want more info.

I just read up on gun transportation law and was happy to read that transporting firearms seems to be completely legal if you follow a few rules. I was under the impression that transportation was illegal unless you were going too/from the range or transporting it as a gift.

What are these few rules? They could prove helpful.

Going from memory I seem to remember something about 3 degrees of separation between the weapon and its ammunition.

Or you could go here

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_law_in ... ted_States

Quote:
Transporting Firearms

* A provision of federal law serves as a defense to state or local laws which would prohibit the passage of persons with firearms in interstate travel.

* Notwithstanding any state or local law, a person shall be entitled to transport a firearm from any place where he may lawfully possess and transport such firearm to any other place where he may lawfully possess and transport such firearm if the firearm is unloaded and in a locked container. In vehicles without a locked container, the unloaded firearm shall be in a locked box other than the glove compartment or console.[3]

* Federal law prohibits the carrying of any firearm, concealed or unconcealed, on or about the person or in carry-on baggage while aboard a commercial aircraft. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has established certain requirements for transporting firearms and ammunition. Firearms must be carried in a locked hard sided case. Ammunition must be declared and can be transported in checked baggage or in the same container as the firearm as long the firearm is unloaded.

* Any passenger who owns or legally possesses a firearm being transported aboard any common or contract carrier for movement with the passenger in interstate or foreign commerce must deliver the unloaded firearm into custody of the pilot, captain, conductor, or operator of such common or contract carrier for the duration of the trip.

[3] http://www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/18/926A.html Title 18 § 926A, Interstate transportation of firearms

Notwithstanding is a different way to say 'despite'. I had to look this up cause I suck at English so the second section says 'Despite any state or local law,...'.

Under Missouri law, you can have a handgun loaded and concealed on your person, while in the vehicle. No permit or license necessary. The only restriction is that you are over 21 and legally able to own a gun (it doesn't even have to be your gun), which means no violent crimes, no felonies, a citizen or legal resident. Of course, you could also have it in the glove box, in a case, stuck between the seats, etc. Loaded or unloaded makes no difference.

There are no restrictions on transporting a long gun. You can keep it loaded or unloaded in your car. There are practical things, like keep it out of sight or someone will break your window and steal it, don't keep it loaded with one in the chamber unless it has a firing pin block (most rifles/shotguns do not).

Missouri Revised Statues, Chapter 571

Specifically, here is the law on transporting a handgun:

Quote:
571.030. 1. A person commits the crime of unlawful use of weapons if he or she knowingly:
(1) Carries concealed upon or about his or her person a knife, a firearm
, ...
...
3. Subdivision (1) of subsection 1 of this section (the part I highlighted in red) does not apply to any person twenty-one years of age or older transporting a concealable firearm in the passenger compartment of a motor vehicle, so long as such concealable firearm is otherwise lawfully possessed, ...

The law does not reference transport of long guns, (and the Missouri Constitution forbids any lower authority from making regulations regarding firearms except for open carry of handguns) therefore there are no restrictions.

There are no other restrictions on transporting a firearm in Missouri (unless you want to carry it concealed outside of your home or vehicle).

The shooting range south on 63 took a big hit from a couple of big rains this spring and summer. The roads are more washed out than ever but I am able to get through with my 2WD truck. You just must be careful not to hit the big holes, etc. There is also a somewhat treacherous spot just before the shooting range. The creek has deposited a large bank of sand on the road. This was really tall at first but 4WD trucks have smashed it down over time and it is now passable if you have enough momentum to get through the sand. This flood damaged the shooting bench and unearthed years worth of shell casings. It looked like that entire field must have been covered with water as the grass was all bent over the same direction and there was debris scattared throughout the area.

I have never had any issues with strange people at this site. The trash is sometimes an issue and I try to pick some up to put somewhat of a dent in the mess. All the shell casings I pickup are great to trade with reloaders. The cardboard boxes, cans, etc. aren't that big of a deal but the shot up television that has been set on fire is another sitation. I heard that someone shot an aeresol can a few years ago and it exploded, setting the entire field on fire.

I would say that this post was rather helpful, but thanks for being quick to accuse everyone bumping an old thread of being an ass.

I was there they day that it was set on fire. The dumbass that did it claimed the field just started on fire while they were just shooting.
