Does anyone know of a good web host? My current one is being a dick...

One that allows shell access...

Oh, no mp3's I have on my site are copyrighted or anything like that...

Thanks!

(I know this could go in computers, but I'm a little pissed and want to spread the word on Micfo.com)

dreamhost.com You can find coupon codes to get a year for about $12. You can pretty much use your space however you want and they give you a crap ton of and a bunch of bandwidth. They aren't as reliable as some, but for non-mission-cirtial stuff like personal website, personal backup, and developing your next big idea they are great.

Correct. On a campus machine goto your "W" drive and create a index.html file with the words "Hello World" in it, there you go...

Just use note pad to start with, it works great.

your web page is at:

http://web.umr.edu/~user_id_here/

You only have like 20MB of free space though, or maybe 50, I forget.

You probably have to VPN in, but beyond that, any FTP browser should work I think.

Here's a link to a really good web host. They have excellent customer service. My friend and I are going to launch a large-scale web site with this host within the coming months.

As an example of their customer service, they start you with 500 megs and they'll give you more in increments of 500 megs once you've used 90% of your space. However, my friend called to ask for more space and explained what it was for, and the service rep just gave him 3 gigs without my friend even asking for it.

They also give you a free lifelong domain name.

Oh, and they have shell access. Edit: Only available on dedicated plans, apparently :\ Here's the link anyway:

LunarPages

Edit: Forgot to include this. Here's an example page hosted by lunarpages so you can test the performance they have on a shared server.
